Limit pretrees for free group automorphisms: existence
To any free group automorphism, we associate a real pretree with several nice properties. First, it has a rigid/non-nesting action of the free group with trivial arc stabilizers.

Virtually splitting the map from Aut(G) to Out(G)
We give an elementary criterion on a group G for the map from Aut(G) to Out(G) to split virtually. This criterion applies to many residually finite CAT(0) groups and hyperbolic groups, and in particular to all finitely generated Coxeter groups.

Limit trees for free group automorphisms: universality
To any free group automorphism, we associate a universal (cone of) limit tree(s) with three defining properties: first, the tree has a minimal isometric action of the free group with trivial arc stabilizers; second, there is a unique expanding dilation ...

Splitting automorphisms of prime power orders of free Burnside groups
We prove that if the order of a splitting automorphism of free Burnside group~$B(m,n)$ of odd period~$n\ge1003$ is a prime power, then the automorphism is inner.

The conjugacy problem for $\operatorname {Out}(F_3)$
We present a solution to the conjugacy problem in the group of outer automorphisms of $F_3$ , a free group of rank 3. We distinguish according to several computable invariants, such as irreducibility, subgroups of polynomial growth and subgroups ...

Automorphisms of one-relator groups
It is a well-known fact that every group $G$ has a presentation of the form $G = F/R$, where $F$ is a free group and $R$ the kernel of the natural epimorphism from $F$ onto $G$.

Inertial endomorphisms of an abelian group
We describe inertial endomorphisms of an abelian group $A$, that is endomorphisms $\varphi$ with the property $|(\varphi(X)+X)/X|

Complexity volumes of splittable groups
Using graph of groups decompositions of finitely generated groups, we define Euler characteristic type invariants which are non-zero in many interesting classes of finitely presented, hyperbolic, limit and CSA groups, including elementarily free groups ...

Vanishing resonance and representations of Lie algebras
We explore a relationship between the classical representation theory of a complex, semisimple Lie algebra \g and the resonance varieties R(V,K)\subset V^* attached to irreducible \g-modules V and submodules K\subset V\wedge V.

INVERSION IS POSSIBLE IN GROUPS WITH NO PERIODIC AUTOMORPHISMS
International audienceThere exist infinite, finitely presented, torsion-free groups G such that Aut(G) and Out(G) are torsion-free but G has an automorphism sending some non-trivial element to its ...
