Radioactivity of soil in Croatia I: naturally occurring decay chains
The assessment of environmental radioactivity much relies on radionuclide content in soil. This stems from the significant contribution of soil to both external and internal exposure to ionising radiation via direct emission of gamma radiation and soil ...

Bayesian improvements to 210Pb dating
<p>Dating with 210Pb has been instrumental in providing chronologies for sedimentary deposits back to around 100-150 years ago &#8212; a key period for recent environmental events such as increased pollution caused by industry developments.

Naturally occurring beryllium-7 (7Be) and lead-210 (210Pb) serve as powerful tracers in atmospheric studies. In this study, 7Be and 210Pb were simultaneously measured in atmospheric aerosols and deposition samples for an entire year (from January to ...

Greenhouse gas balance over thaw-freeze cycles in discontinuous zone permafrost [PDF]
Peat in the discontinuous permafrost zone contains a globally significant reservoir of carbon that has undergone multiple permafrost-thaw cycles since the end of the mid-Holocene (~3700 years before present).

Ascertaining the nature and timing of mire degradation : using palaeoecology to assist future conservation management in Northern England [PDF]
This study was initiated under contract VT0419 from English Nature (Natural England) to CECQR. In 2015, additional funding was provided by the Yorkshire Peat Partnership, for 210Pb dating, to refine age–depth estimates.

Variations of 210Pb concentrations in surface air at Thessaloniki, Greece (40°N)
Atmospheric concentrations of 210Pb were measured over the year 2009 in ground level air at Thessaloniki, Northern Greece (40°62′ N, 22°95′E). The mean activity concentrations of 210Pb in surface air have been found to be 671 ± 213 μBq m−3.

Geochronological implications of 210Pb and 137Cs mobility in cave guano deposits
Some recent publications on the paleo- and historical environmental interpretation of bat guano sequences have relied on 210Pb and 137Cs distribution to establish age-depth models, even when these are at odds with radiocarbon models in the lower parts of
