Variations of 210Pb concentrations in surface air at Thessaloniki, Greece (40°N)

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
Atmospheric concentrations of 210Pb were measured over the year 2009 in ground level air at Thessaloniki, Northern Greece (40°62′ N, 22°95′E). The mean activity concentrations of 210Pb in surface air have been found to be 671 ± 213 μBq m−3.

Geochronological implications of 210Pb and 137Cs mobility in cave guano deposits

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 2021
Some recent publications on the paleo- and historical environmental interpretation of bat guano sequences have relied on 210Pb and 137Cs distribution to establish age-depth models, even when these are at odds with radiocarbon models in the lower parts of

The BetaCage, an ultra-sensitive screener for surface contamination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Material screening for identifying low-energy electron emitters and alpha-decaying isotopes is now a prerequisite for rare-event searches (e.g., dark-matter direct detection and neutrinoless double-beta decay) for which surface radiocontamination has ...

210Po/210Pb Disequilibria and Its Estimate of Particulate Organic Carbon Export Around Prydz Bay, Antarctica

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Due to the remoteness and difficulty of sampling, the 210Po and 210Pb data are scarce in the Southern Ocean. Here, the activity concentrations of 210Po and 210Pb around Prydz Bay in austral summer were determined to understand their spatial variation and

Vertical zonation of testate amoebae in the Elatia Mires, northern Greece : palaeoecological evidence for a wetland response to recent climate change or autogenic processes? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Elatia Mires of northern Greece are unique ecosystems of high conservation value. The mires are climatically marginal and may be sensitive to changing hydroclimate, while northern Greece has experienced a significant increase in aridity since the ...

Measurement of radioactive contamination in the high-resistivity silicon CCDs of the DAMIC experiment

open access: yes, 2015
We present measurements of radioactive contamination in the high-resistivity silicon charge-coupled devices (CCDs) used by the DAMIC experiment to search for dark matter particles.

Results from the Super Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (SuperCDMS) experiment at Soudan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We report the result of a blinded search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) using the majority of the SuperCDMS Soudan dataset. With an exposure of 1690 kg days, a single candidate event is observed, consistent with expected backgrounds ...

Low background techniques for the Borexino nylon vessels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Borexino is an organic liquid scintillator underground detector for low energy solar neutrinos. The experiment has to satisfy extremely stringent low background requirements.

From shape to source: sedimentary charcoal morphology as a proxy for tropical burned biomass composition

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sedimentary charcoal elongation is increasingly being used in paleoecology to distinguish herbaceous from woody fuel in past fires. However, the relationship between charcoal morphotypes and plant types has never been formally tested in tropical environments, despite its potential to improve understanding of fire regimes and deforestation, and
