Population Monitoring for Acute Exposure to 210Po

Journal of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, 2008
To investigate the feasibility of using single void urine samples to monitor internal radiation exposure of first responders and large populations int he event of a radiological incident involving the intentional dispersal of 210Po.Urinary excretion of 210Po was evaluated and organ absorbed and effective doses were calculated subsequent to an acute ...

Accumulation of 210Po in Baltic invertebrates

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 1988
This paper presents the results of an investigation of the 210Po contents of Baltic marine invertebrates. The 210Po concentrations fall within the range 11·3–78·9 Bq kg−1 (dry wt), the higher values relating to polychaeta, priapulida and malacostraca and the lower levels to bivalvia.

Assessment of 210Po in Italian diet

Food Chemistry, 2014
This research was dedicated to the study, in the Italian daily diet, of the background activity concentration of (210)Po, a radionuclide with a high radiotoxicity. (210)Po was determined by alpha spectrometry. For food products of vegetable origin, the (210)Po activity concentration follows the trend: leafy vegetable>flour>rice>fruits>pasta>other ...

A review of 210Pb and 210Po in moss

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity
Among environment contaminants, 210Pb and 210Po have gained significant research attention due to their radioactive toxicity. Moss, with its exceptional adsorption capability for these radionuclides, serves as an indicator for environmental 210Pb and 210Po pollution.

Decay of 210At to levels in 210Po

Nuclear Physics A, 1972
Abstract The electron-capture decay of 210 At has been reinvestigated and present data define twenty-three levels in 210 Po. The multipolarity of thirty-six transitions have been measured and combined with data from recent reaction studies to assign spins and parities to these levels. Evidence is presented which locates the 3 − collective level in

The distribution of 210Po in human bone

Science of The Total Environment, 1993
Recent measurements of natural radioactivity in human bone using alpha particle autoradiography have indicated that the alpha activity concentration in the bone marrow is similar to that found in the calcified bone. This paper describes radiochemical measurements made on the calcified bone and the associated bone marrow from three human femurs.

210Po AND 210Pb INHALATION BY CIGARETTE SMOKING IN ITALY

Health Physics, 2007
210Po and its precursor 210Pb in cigarette smoke contribute a significant radiation dose to the lungs of smokers. In this work, the concentration of 210Po was determined in 17 of the most frequently smoked cigarette brands in Italy. Samples of tobacco, fresh filters, ash, and post-smoking filters were analyzed; 210Po was determined by alpha ...

210Po and 210Pb Intake by the Portuguese Population

Health Physics, 1995
Through analysis of 210Po and 210Pb in the diet, the average ingestion rate for the Portuguese population is estimated at 1.2 and 0.47 Bq d-1 per capita for 210Po and 210Pb, respectively. Detailed analysis of foods indicate that seafood alone contributes up to 70% of the 210Po ingestion rate, whereas cereals, vegetables, and meat altogether contribute ...

The activities of 210Po and 210Pb in cigarette smoked in Tunisia

Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 2020
In this study, the activity concentration of polonium 210 in cigarette for Tunisian consumers was investigated by alpha spectrometry. After chemical digestion of tobacco, 210Po was extracted, auto-deposited on disc and measured. The activity of 210Pb was assessed after radioactive equilibrium was achieved.

Migration of 210Po in lead to the surface

International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part A. Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1992
Abstract Measurements and analysis of the kinetics of the phenomenon of migration of polonium to the surface in lead are presented. Polonium atoms diffuse to surface because their thermodynamic potential on surface is lower than inside the lead of the raw production.
