Bremsstrahlung Spectrum in alpha Decay

open access: yes, 1999
Using our previous approach to electromagnetic emission during tunneling, an explicit, essentially classical, formula describing the bremsstrahlung spectrum in alpha decay is derived. The role of tunneling motion in photon emission is discussed.

Response of Microbial Communities to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material–Contaminated Sediments: A Microcosm‐Based Study

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Volume 43, Issue 7, Page 1648-1661, July 2024.
Abstract There is a growing need to understand the potential ecological impacts of contaminants in offshore oil and gas infrastructure, especially if that infrastructure is to be left in situ as a decommissioning option. Naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) is one type of contaminant found in solid deposits on internal surfaces of ...

Estimation of 210Po and 210Pb and its doses to human beings due to consumption of freshwater species of Ponnusamuthiram Lake, South India

open access: yesRadiation Protection and Environment
A systemic study on the natural radionuclides such as 210Po and 210Pb in the environmental matrices and biota of Ponnusamuthiram Lake (Kumarapalayam) has been undertaken to establish a baseline data on the radiation profile of Ponnusamuthiram Lake ...

The saga of neutrinoless double beta decay search with TeO2 thermal detectors

open access: yes, 2019
Neutrinoless double beta decay (0nbb) is a direct probe of physics beyond the Standard Model. Its discovery would demonstrate that the lepton number is not a symmetry of nature and would provide us with unique information on the nature and mass of the ...

A sedimentary DNA record of the Atacama Trench reveals biodiversity changes in the most productive marine ecosystem

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 7, July 2024.
Using DNA deposited in deep‐sea sediments, we examine how marine biodiversity has changed over the last 150 years in Chilean waters. We find a unique period aligning with high fishing and extreme climatic events that reduces overall diversity. Furthermore, we find an effect of sea surface temperature and El Nino events over diversity, providing an idea

Temporal Pattern and Profile of a Coastal‐Deep Sea Conveyor at a Marginal Deep Oligotrophic Sea

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 129, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract Sediment trap data set and 234Th profiles (deep water excesses and deficits) reveal that particulate organic carbon (POC) export at the highly oligotrophic Levantine Sea is dominated by lateral transport from the nearby margin. These intermediate nepheloid layers (INL) operate at multi‐depth, with the silt‐to‐clay size particulate matter (PM ...

Distribution and enrichment of 210Po and210Pb in the environment of Mangalore, Southwest Coast of India

open access: yesRadiation Protection and Environment, 2019
The article deals with the distribution and enrichment of210Po and210Pb in soil samples of Mangalore, Southwest Coast of India. The soil samples collected from the region were analyzed for210Po and210Pb activity using radiochemical analytical technique ...

Lunar Outgassing, Transient Phenomena and The Return to The Moon, I: Existing Data

open access: yes, 2007
Herein the transient lunar phenomena (TLP) report database is subjected to a discriminating statistical filter robust against sites of spurious reports, and produces a restricted sample that may be largely reliable.

Characterization of a segmented printed circuit board (PCB) as a standard for absorbed dose to water from alpha‐emitting radionuclides

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 51, Issue 5, Page 3665-3676, May 2024.
Abstract Background Our previous work introduced and evaluated a standard for surface absorbed dose rate per unit radioactivity to water from unsealed alpha‐emitting radionuclides used in targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT). An overall uncertainty over 4.0% at k = 1 was reported for the absorbed dose to air measurements, which was partially attributed ...
