A New Technique for Age Assessment of Ancient Bones by Using Cr-39 Track Detector

open access: yesПоволжская археология
A new highly sensitive technique is proposed to estimate the age of ancient bones by the specific activity of 226Ra, which is determined by the registration of 222Rn α–particles using a CR-39 track detector in an isolated chamber.

228Ra/226Ra activity ratio in groundwater around Mount Fuji, Japan

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
We estimated the groundwater age from 228Ra/226Ra ratios in young groundwater and relevant rocks in the volcanic area of the Kakitagawa River around Mount Fuji, Japan, and compared our results with those from 3H/3He age determination.

Viscosity of Dry and Hydrous Diopside Melts at High Pressures: Implications for Upper Mantle Magma Dynamics

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Viscosity of silicate melts governs magma transport and influences mantle dynamics, yet effects of pressure and water on melt viscosity remain poorly understood. Here, we report in situ falling‐sphere viscosity measurements on diopside (Di) melts with 0–3 wt.% H2O along the liquidus up to 7 GPa and 2103 K using synchrotron X‐ray radiography ...

On the possibility to search for double beta decay of initially unstable (alpha/beta radioactive) nuclei

open access: yes, 2004
Possibilities to search for double beta decay of alpha/beta unstable nuclei, many of which have higher energy release than "conventional" (beta stable) double beta decay candidates, are discussed.

Dark Matter Spin-Dependent Limits for WIMP Interactions on 19-F by PICASSO [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The PICASSO experiment at SNOLAB reports new results for spin-dependent WIMP interactions on $^{19}$F using the superheated droplet technique. A new generation of detectors and new features which enable background discrimination via the rejection of non ...

Insights Into the Comprehensive Carbon Cycle in a Mangrove Ecosystem: A Case Study for Understanding Carbon Burial, Outgassing, and Outwelling in a Subtropical Island

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract A significant quantity of soil organic carbon (SOC) is buried in mangrove ecosystems. However, recent research has revealed that substantial amounts of carbon are exported to the atmosphere as CO2 or to the ocean as dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and particulate organic carbon (POC).

Seasonal variations of 228Ra/226Ra and 228Th/228Ra ratios in surface water from the eastern East China Sea

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
A total of 30 surface water samples were collected at 2 sites on the east side of the East China Sea (ECS) during 2008–20f0, and 226Ra, 228Ra, and 228Th activities were measured using low-background γ-spectrometry.

Insights into temporal earthquake clustering from the Settlement Fault, southeastern Otago, Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 68, Issue 4, Page 747-772, December 2025.
ABSTRACT We combine previous studies, fieldwork, lidar data, and trenching to examine late Quaternary activity of the SE‐dipping ≥23 km long Settlement Fault in the southeastern South Island. Trenching of a scarp crossing a small alluvial fan exposed a > 3 m thick sequence of folded sandy to silty fan alluvium.

Sedimentary record of submarine gravity‐flow events in the southern Ryukyu forearc during the last 200 000 years: Archive of mega‐earthquakes and tsunamis

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 72, Issue 7, Page 2323-2360, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Despite high convergence velocity, the southern Ryukyu subduction has relatively low and sparse instrumental seismicity, in contrast with the Yaeyama Islands, hit by huge tsunamis over the last few thousand years. This study explores the potential of deep marine sediments to record past large earthquakes and tsunamis.
