A New Technique for Age Assessment of Ancient Bones by Using Cr-39 Track Detector

A new highly sensitive technique is proposed to estimate the age of ancient bones by the specific activity of 226Ra, which is determined by the registration of 222Rn α–particles using a CR-39 track detector in an isolated chamber.

ABSTRACT We combine previous studies, fieldwork, lidar data, and trenching to examine late Quaternary activity of the SE‐dipping ≥23 km long Settlement Fault in the southeastern South Island. Trenching of a scarp crossing a small alluvial fan exposed a > 3 m thick sequence of folded sandy to silty fan alluvium.
