Almost uniform domains and Poincaré inequalities

open access: yesTransactions of the London Mathematical Society, 2021
Here we show existence of many subsets of Euclidean spaces that, despite having empty interior, still support Poincaré inequalities with respect to the restricted Lebesgue measure.

Properties of multiplication operators on the space of functions of bounded φ-variation

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2021
In this paper, the functions u∈BVφ[0,1]u\in B{V}_{\varphi }\left[0,1] which define compact and Fredholm multiplication operators Mu{M}_{u} acting on the space of functions of bounded φ\varphi -variation are studied.

Urban green space use during a time of stress: A case study during the COVID‐19 pandemic in Brisbane, Australia

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 597-609, June 2021., 2021
Abstract Spending time in nature is one potential way to cope with the negative physical and psychological health impacts from major stressful life events. In 2020, a large fraction of the global population was impacted by restrictions to contain the spread of the COVID‐19 outbreak, a period characterised by marked health risks and behavioural changes.

Bounded variation of functions defined on a convex and compact set in the plane

open access: yesArab Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, 2023
In this paper, the variation of functions has been defined, whose domain is a convex and compact set in the plane. Furthermore, in addition to presenting properties that satisfy this variation, the vector space formed by functions with finite variation ...

Multiplication operators on the Banach algebra of bounded Φ-variation functions on compact subsets of ℂ

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica, 2022
Let AΦ(K){{\mathbb{A}}}_{\Phi }\left({\bf{K}}) be the Banach algebra of bounded Φ\Phi -variation functions defined on a compact set K{\bf{K}} in the complex plane, hh a function defined on K{\bf{K}}, and Mh{M}_{h} a multiplication operator induced by hh.

Isoperimetric and Poincaré Inequalities on Non-Self-Similar Sierpiński Sponges: the Borderline Case

open access: yesAnalysis and Geometry in Metric Spaces, 2022
In this paper we construct a large family of examples of subsets of Euclidean space that support a 1-Poincaré inequality yet have empty interior. These examples are formed from an iterative process that involves removing well-behaved domains, or more ...

Rate of convergence of bounded variation functions by a Bézier‐Durrmeyer variant of the Baskakov operators

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 2004, Issue 9, Page 459-468, 2004., 2004
We consider a Bézier‐Durrmeyer integral variant of the Baskakov operators and study the rate of convergence for functions of bounded variation.

Local solvability of a constrainedgradient system of total variation

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 2004, Issue 8, Page 651-682, 2004., 2004
A 1‐harmonic map flow equation, a gradient system of total variation where values of unknowns are constrained in a compact manifold in ℝN, is formulated by the use of subdifferentials of a singular energy—the total variation. An abstract convergence result is established to show that solutions of approximate problem converge to a solution of the limit ...

On a measure of noncompactness in the space of regulated functions and its applications

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis, 2018
In this paper we formulate a criterion for relative compactness in the space of functions regulated on a bounded and closed interval. We prove that the mentioned criterion is equivalent to a known criterion obtained earlier by D.

Stable Approximations of a Minimal Surface Problem with Variational Inequalities

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 2, Issue 1-2, Page 137-161, 1997., 1997
In this paper we develop a new approach for the stable approximation of a minimal surface problem associated with a relaxed Dirichlet problem in the space BV(Ω) of functions of bounded variation. The problem can be reformulated as an unconstrained minimization problem of a functional 𝒥 on BV(Ω) defined by 𝒥(u) = 𝒜(u) + ∫∂Ω|Tu − Φ|, where 𝒜(u) is the ...
