Ethanol was a major byproduct of 2,3-butanediol (2,3-BD) fermentation by Klebsiella oxytoca ME-UD-3. In order to achieve a high efficiency of 2,3-BD production, K. oxytoca mutants deficient in ethanol formation were successfully constructed by replace the aldA gene coding for aldehyde dehydrogenase with a tetracycline resistance cassette.

Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2013The production of 2, 3-butanediol and succinic acid by a moderate halophile under anaerobic condition was investigated. This halophile, termed Salinivibrio YS, was isolated from the solid samples collected from Aydingkol Lake. Based on the single factor experiment, the parameters and their values for the production were obtained.
