Chronotype in relation to shift work: A cohort study among 37,731 female nurses

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary Chronotype may affect tolerance for circadian disruption induced by shift work. This study examines the association between chronotype, self‐reported sleep timing, shift type preference, and sleep problems among nurses, and studies chronotype stability over time.

Self-Organized Nanostructure Modified Microelectrode for Sensitive Electrochemical Glutamate Detection in Stem Cells-Derived Brain Organoids

open access: yesBiosensors, 2018
Neurons release neurotransmitters such as glutamate to communicate with each other and to coordinate brain functioning. As increased glutamate release is indicative of neuronal maturation and activity, a system that can measure glutamate levels over time

Beyond species means – the intraspecific contribution to global wood density variation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Wood density is central for estimating vegetation carbon storage and a plant functional trait of great ecological and evolutionary importance. However, the global extent of wood density variation is unclear, especially at the intraspecific level. We assembled the most comprehensive wood density collection to date, including 109 626 records from

Identification of Potential Modulators of a Pathogenic G Protein-Gated Inwardly Rectifying K+ Channel 4 Mutant: In Silico Investigation in the Context of Drug Discovery for Hypertension

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Genetic abnormalities have been associated with primary aldosteronism, a major cause of secondary hypertension. This includes mutations in the KCNJ5 gene, which encodes G protein-gated inwardly rectifying K+ channel 4 (GIRK4).

Detection and localization of continuous gravitational waves with pulsar timing arrays: the role of pulsar terms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A pulsar timing array is a Galactic-scale detector of nanohertz gravitational waves (GWs). Its target signals contain two components: the `Earth term' and the `pulsar term' corresponding to GWs incident on the Earth and pulsar respectively.

Innate Immune Responses to Influenza Virus Infections in the Upper Respiratory Tract

open access: yesViruses, 2021
The innate immune system is the host’s first line of immune defence against any invading pathogen. To establish an infection in a human host the influenza virus must replicate in epithelial cells of the upper respiratory tract. However, there are several
