3D Microtumors Representing Ovarian Cancer Minimal Residual Disease Respond to the Fatty Acid Oxidation Inhibitor Perhexiline

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Minimal residual disease (MRD) leads to cancer relapse and poor survival in ovarian cancer. The lack of representative 3D models limits therapy development. The microfluidics‐based high throughput 3D microtumor platform described here generates clinically‐relevant MRD models. The 3D microtumors recapitulate the molecular signatures of MRD from patients.

A Wireless Cortical Surface Implant for Diagnosing and Alleviating Parkinson's Disease Symptoms in Freely Moving Animals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A wireless cortical surface implant employing graphene electrode arrays diagnoses and alleviates Parkinson's disease symptoms in freely moving animals. The device continuously monitors cortical activity and delivers targeted stimulation, restoring beta–gamma and delta oscillations.

Designing for Degradation: Transient Devices Enabled by (Nano)Cellulose

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Recent progress in transient devices enabled by (nano)cellulosic materials is reviewed. Transiency mechanisms, advantages of nanocelluloses, and a suite of applications are discussed. A circular thinking approach coupled with life cycle assessment is applied to critically revisit the potential, advantages, and challenges of nanocellulose‐enabled ...

Burmese Attitude toward Chinese: Portrayal of the Chinese in Contemporary Cultural and Media Works

open access: yesJournal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, 2012
This paper argues that since at least the mid 1980s, there has been an observable negative attitude among the people of Burma against the Chinese. Such sentiment is not just transient public opinion, but an attitude.

CMOS-fabricated ultraviolet light modulators using low-loss alumina piezo-optomechanical photonic circuits [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We demonstrate a CMOS-foundry-fabricated piezo-optomechanical photonic integrated circuit platform for ultraviolet and blue wavelengths, using alumina waveguides that are strongly mechanically coupled to monolithically integrated aluminum nitride piezoelectric actuators. Low waveguide losses are measured down to at least 320 nm, where we achieve 1.6 dB/
