Inducing Chirality and Chiral Instabilities in Ferrogels with Homogenous Magnetic Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By pre‐aligning magnetic particles into chains, significant chiral deformations are induced by fixing the base of a cylindrical actuator and applying a homogeneous magnetic field. Subsequent base rotation can drive the system into metastable states. Further rotation or reduction of field strength triggers a chiral instability, characterized by a switch

Incumbents without a Campaign Finance Advantage: Competition and Money in Chile’s Congressional Elections Sin una ventaja financiera: Incumbentes y el gasto electoral en las elecciones parlamentarias de Chile

open access: yesJournal of Politics in Latin America, 2011
Research from various countries has shown that incumbents in legislative elections raise and spend more money when they face a tougher contest. A statistical analysis of Chilean candidates’ campaign finance disclosures shows the opposite: an inverse ...

Near‐Sensor Analog Computing via Monolithic 3D Piezoelectric Sensor–FeFET for Tactile Sensing System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A monolithic 3D‐integrated tactile system combines a piezoelectric sensor and ferroelectric field‐effect transistor (FeFET) to process both static and dynamic pressure signals directly at the sensor node. The system enables in‐sensor analog noise filtering with multi‐level memory states, achieving high sensitivity and ultra‐low power operation (≈10 nW),

Lessons from Preah Vihear: Thailand, Cambodia, and the Nature of Low-Intensity Border Conflicts

open access: yesJournal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, 2011
In 1962, the International Court of Justice ruled that the Preah Vihear temple lies within Cambodian territory. The status of the 4.6 km² of land surrounding the temple, however, remained unclear.

Graded Hydroxyapatite Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Structures for Bone Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of triply periodic minimal structures in load bearing bone tissue engineering applications. Research uses a combination of mechanical testing, material characterization, and in vitro tests to study the impact of TPMS lattice structures (gyroid, lidinoid and split‐P).
