Serum Bile Acids Are Useful Indicators of Intrahepatic Recurrence After Initial Curative Hepatectomy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Bile acids accumulation in hepatocytes causes liver damage and contributes to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. However, the association between serum bile acid levels and postoperative intrahepatic recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma remains unclear.

Prognostic Impact of Histologic Subtypes in Mismatch Repair‐Deficient/Microsatellite Instability‐High Colorectal Cancer: A Single‐Center Retrospective Study of 1127 Stage 0–IV Patients

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Deficient mismatch repair/microsatellite instability‐High (dMMR/MSI‐H) colorectal cancer (CRC) generally confers a favorable survival yet is paradoxically enriched for poorly differentiated (Por) histology, which is linked to aggressive behavior.

An Agreement to Disagree: The ASEAN Human Rights Declaration and the Absence of Regional Identity in Southeast Asia

open access: yesJournal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, 2014

Rethinking Perioperative Corticosteroids in Esophageal Cancer Surgery: Evidence From an Integrative Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Esophagectomy remains a highly invasive procedure associated with substantial postoperative morbidity. Pulmonary complications, anastomotic leakage, and in‐hospital mortality are of particular concern. Perioperative corticosteroids are often administered to attenuate excessive inflammatory responses; however, the clinical impact in ...

Surgical Resection for Colorectal Liver Metastasis in Elderly Patients Aged ≥ 80: A Retrospective Nationwide Cohort Survey in Japan With Propensity Score Matching

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Surgical resection for CRLM seems to be as effective in elderly patients aged ≥ 80 as in nonelderly patients. However, elderly patients aged ≥ 80 had significantly worse cancer‐specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS). The significantly worse CSS and OS may have resulted from a lower rate of treatment for recurrence in elderly patients aged ...

Consequences of Medium‐Pore Zeolite Constraints for Alkene Cracking—The Case of n‐Pentene

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Alkene cracking in medium‐pore zeolites is governed by a balance of enthalpic and entropic effects. Intrinsic barriers are quantified and shown to be lower than for alkanes due to stabilization of carbenium‐ion‐like transition states. Confinement and extra‐framework aluminum modulate reactivity by tuning transition‐state energetics, providing a ...
