Blow-up results for semilinear wave equations in the super-conformal case

open access: yes, 2013
We consider the semilinear wave equation in higher dimensions with power nonlinearity in the super-conformal range, and its perturbations with lower order terms, including the Klein-Gordon equation.

Intrinsic decay rates for the energy of a nonlinear viscoelastic equation modeling the vibrations of thin rods with variable density

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis, 2017
We consider the long-time behavior of a nonlinear PDE with a memory term which can be recast in the abstract ...

On the local structure of the Klein-Gordon field on curved spacetimes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper investigates wave-equations on spacetimes with a metric which is locally analytic in the time. We use recent results in the theory of the non-characteristic Cauchy problem to show that a solution to a wave-equation vanishing in an open set ...

Dynamics for wave equations connected in parallel with nonlinear localized damping

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis
This study investigates the properties of solutions about one-dimensional wave equations connected in parallel under the effect of two nonlinear localized frictional damping mechanisms.

Efficient PML for the wave equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the last decade, the perfectly matched layer (PML) approach has proved a flexible and accurate method for the simulation of waves in unbounded media. Most PML formulations, however, usually require wave equations stated in their standard second-order ...

Blow-up of solutions for Euler-Bernoulli equation with nonlinear time delay

open access: yesOpen Mathematics
We study the Euler-Bernoulli equations with time delay: utt+Δ2u−g1∗Δ2u+g2∗Δu+μ1ut(x,t)∣ut(x,t)∣m−2+μ2ut(x,t−τ)∣ut(x,t−τ)∣m−2=f(u),{u}_{tt}+{\Delta }^{2}u-{g}_{1}\ast {\Delta }^{2}u+{g}_{2}\ast \Delta u+{\mu }_{1}{u}_{t}\left(x,t){| {u}_{t}\left(x,t ...

Conformal scattering theory for the linearized gravity fields on Schwarzschild spacetime

open access: yes, 2020
We provide in this paper a first step to obtain the conformal scattering theory for the linearized gravity fields on the Schwarzschild spacetime by using the conformal geometric approach.

Blow-Up of Positive Solutions to Wave Equations in High Space Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for the semilinear wave equation: $u_{tt}-\Delta u=F(u) \ \mbox{in} \ R^n\times[0, \infty)$, where the space dimension $n \ge 2$, $F(u)=|u|^p$ or $F(u)=|u|^{p-1}u$ with $p>1$.

Limiting behavior of quasilinear wave equations with fractional-type dissipation

open access: yesAdvanced Nonlinear Studies
In this work, we investigate a class of quasilinear wave equations of Westervelt type with, in general, nonlocal-in-time dissipation. They arise as models of nonlinear sound propagation through complex media with anomalous diffusion of Gurtin–Pipkin type.
