360-degree Video Content Tracking and Editing

open access: yes
Nowadays, 360-degree visual tracking has become increasingly important in 360-degree video image processing technology. Although visual tracking technology in 2D videos has gradually matured, there is no universal method for visual tracking in 360-degree

Multimodal Engagement Assessment in Children During Invented Story Paradigm With a Social Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A multimodal framework is proposed to assess children's engagement during storytelling interactions with a social robot. Gaze, physiological, and behavioral data are combined and validated against observer ratings. An automated gaze‐labeling strategy is introduced, and supervised classifiers achieve high accuracy. The study supports scalable engagement

European multicentre study on outcome of surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
Some 5861 patients undergoing first‐time surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism were registered in the Eurocrine® database between 2015 and 2018. The use of intraoperative parathyroid hormone measurement decreased the risk of conversion and persistent hypercalcaemia.

Student reflections on the use of 360-degree video to support pseudo-synchronous collaborative mathematical problem solving in online learning environments

open access: yesOnline Learning
Online learning offers increased flexibility to students but also poses new complexities. For example, there are challenges in digitizing teaching approaches that rely on the co-construction of knowledge through social interaction and collaboration ...

Evaluating the Use of 360-Degree Video in Education

open access: yesElectronics
Virtual reality (VR) has existed in the realm of education for over half a century; however, it has never achieved widespread adoption. This was traditionally attributed to costs and usability problems associated with these technologies, but a new generation of consumer VR headsets has helped mitigate these issues to a large degree.

360-Degree Video Head Movement Dataset

open access: yesProceedings of the 8th ACM on Multimedia Systems Conference, 2017
While Virtual Reality applications are increasingly attracting the attention of developers and business analysts, the behaviour of users watching 360-degree (i.e. omnidirectional) videos has not been thoroughly studied yet. This paper introduces a dataset of head movements of users watching 360-degree videos on a Head-Mounted Display (HMD). The dataset

A Multidirectional Textile Interface for Remote Control Using Dynamic Area‐Based Capacitance Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Here, we present a textile, wearable capacitive interface enabling multidirectional remote control by dynamically modulating electrode overlap and spacing via a freely gliding upper electrode. A forearm‐mounted prototype drives robotic and media tasks with 12–15 ms latency, maintains < 0.8% drift after 500 cycles, and remains stably functional at 90 ...

Origami‐Inspired Structural Design for Aquatic‐Terrestrial Amphibious Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a lightweight amphibious origami robot actuated by a single shape memory alloy wire. A rigid foldable origami structure with displacement amplification enables efficient terrestrial crawling and aquatic swimming. The addition of fan‐shaped units allows controllable turning in both environments.

A Soft Robotic Fish With a Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Body and Negative Stiffness Spine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a bio‐mimetic soft robotic fish driven by fiber‐reinforced dielectric elastomer actuators integrated as its body. By prestretching this active skin against a flexible spine, a negative stiffness system is created, enabling large‐amplitude bending.
