First record of Oestrus ovis Linnaeus, 1758 from Malta, and case reports of myiasis from the Maltese Islands (Diptera: Brachycera) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Oestrus ovis is reported for the first time from Malta. An account is given of four cases of myiasis in Malta, one nasopharyngeal in a sheep host involving O.

OGLE-2002-BLG-360: from a gravitational microlensing candidate to an overlooked red transient

open access: yes, 2013
OGLE-2002-BLG-360 was discovered as a microlensing candidate by the OGLE-III project. The subsequent light curve however clearly showed that the brightening of the object could not have resulted from the gravitational microlensing phenomenon.

Poly(1,4‐anthraquinone) as an Organic Electrode Material: Interplay of the Electronic and Structural Properties due to the Unusual Lone‐Pair‐π Conjugation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
In this study, the unique role of the unusual lone‐pair‐π conjugation mechanism in poly(1,4‐anthraquinone) (P14AQ) is explored as an organic electrode material. Unlike traditional π‐π interactions, P14AQ's conjugation involves lone pairs of oxygen atoms interacting with the π cloud of adjacent units, enabling stable charge transport even with minimal π‐

QoE-driven Coupled Uplink and Downlink Rate Adaptation for 360-degree Video Live Streaming [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
360-degree video provides an immersive 360-degree viewing experience and has been widely used in many areas. The 360-degree video live streaming systems involve capturing, compression, uplink (camera to video server) and downlink (video server to user) transmissions.

Development of a Novel, All‐Aromatic High Tensile Modulus Liquid Crystalline Polyimide for Fused Filament Fabrication Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, high tensile modulus, fully aromatic thermotropic liquid crystalline polyimide (LCPI) with better solvent resistance and thermal stability is synthesized. Tensile specimens are fabricated using both injection molding and FFF processes, accomplished via lower viscosity enabled by the LC phase.

Toward Architected Microstructures Using Advanced Laser Beam Shaping in Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Ti‐6Al‐4V

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research applies advanced laser beam shaping (LCoS‐SLM) to fabricate the Ti‐6Al‐4V alloy via laser powder bed fusion. A tailored beam is used to prevent martensite formation and create a dual α+β microstructure by controlling cooling rates.

Datasets for Face and Object Detection in Fisheye Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
We present two new fisheye image datasets for training face and object detection models: VOC-360 and Wider-360. The fisheye images are created by post-processing regular images collected from two well-known datasets, VOC2012 and Wider Face, using a model for mapping regular to fisheye images implemented in Matlab. VOC-360 contains 39,575 fisheye images

Extending 2D Saliency Models for Head Movement Prediction in 360-degree Images using CNN-based Fusion [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), May 2020, Seville, Spain, 2020
Saliency prediction can be of great benefit for 360-degree image/video applications, including compression, streaming , rendering and viewpoint guidance. It is therefore quite natural to adapt the 2D saliency prediction methods for 360-degree images. To achieve this, it is necessary to project the 360-degree image to 2D plane.
