The ∼390 Ma high-T metamorphic event in the Chinese Altai: A consequence of ridge-subduction?

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Science, 2010
High-grade rocks occur in the Chinese Altai, but the timing of metamorphism is poorly constrained, which hinders our understanding of the thermo-tectonic history of the region.

Robust and fragile Werner states in the collective dephasing

open access: yes, 2006
We investigate the concurrence and Bell violation of the standard Werner state or Werner-like states in the presence of collective dephasing. It is shown that the standard Werner state and certain kinds of Werner-like states are robust against the ...

Manufacturing Strategy for Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes as a Biocompatible and Innovative Material

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology, 2012
We investigated the relationship between differences in multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and the biological responses they elicit in order to develop biocompatible MWCNTs.

Composite Intermediary and Mediator Models of Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev.D57:383-390,1998, 1997
We discuss gauge-mediated models which employ a tree-level mass term in the superpotential. We give explicit composite realizations in which the mass terms are not fundamental. Instead, they arise as effective terms in the superpotential from confining gauge dynamics.

Semantic concept detection in imbalanced datasets based on different under-sampling strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Semantic concept detection is a very useful technique for developing powerful retrieval or filtering systems for multimedia data. To date, the methods for concept detection have been converging on generic classification schemes.

Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Reproducibility of Portable OCT and Comparison with Conventional OCT

open access: yesDiagnostics
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an indispensable instrument in ophthalmology; however, some facilities lack permanent OCT devices. ACT100, a portable SD-OCT system, allows for medical examinations at hospitals that do not have OCT and house calls ...

Renormalizability of the massive Yang-Mills theory [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Particles and Nuclei 44 (2013) 386-390, 2005
It is shown that the massive Yang-Mills theory is on mass-shell renormalizable. Thus the Standard Model of electroweak interactions can be modified by removing terms with the scalar field from the Lagrangian in the unitary gauge. The resulting electroweak theory without the Higgs particle is on mass-shell renormalizable and unitary.
