Elasticity of Diametrically Compressed Microfabricated Woodpile Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Modulus–porosity relationship is derived for woodpile lattices with struts under diametrical compression. The formula presented here that Young's modulus is proportional to the square of the volume fraction E˜ρ2$E \sim \left(\rho\right)^{2}$ is shown to be consistent with computations and laboratory experiments on 3D‐printed samples.

Multifunctional Design of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Structures for Temporary Pediatric Fixation Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A metallic implant's higher stiffness compared to the surrounding bone leads to stress shielding problems, causing bone density reduction and bone growth interference in pediatric patients. 3D‐printed triply periodic minimal surface structures present a promising engineering solution.

Inferring Quality in Point Cloud-based 3D Printed Objects using Topological Data Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Assessing the quality of 3D printed models before they are printed remains a challeng- ing problem, particularly when considering point cloud-based models. This paper introduces an approach to quality assessment, which uses techniques from the field of Topological Data Analy- sis (TDA) to compute a topological abstraction of the eventual printed model.
