Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Echo-Reconstruction: Audio-Augmented 3D Scene Reconstruction

open access: yes, 2021
Reflective and textureless surfaces such as windows, mirrors, and walls can be a challenge for object and scene reconstruction. These surfaces are often poorly reconstructed and filled with depth discontinuities and holes, making it difficult to cohesively reconstruct scenes that contain these planar discontinuities.

Learning quadrangulated patches for 3D shape parameterization and completion

open access: yes, 2017
We propose a novel 3D shape parameterization by surface patches, that are oriented by 3D mesh quadrangulation of the shape. By encoding 3D surface detail on local patches, we learn a patch dictionary that identifies principal surface features of the ...

C3DGS: Compressing 3D Gaussian Model for Surface Reconstruction of Large-Scale Scenes Based on Multiview UAV Images

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Methods based on 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) for surface reconstruction face challenges when applied to large-scale scenes captured by UAV. Because the number of 3D Gaussians increases dramatically, leading to significant computational requirement and ...

3D Face Reconstruction from Light Field Images: A Model-free Approach

open access: yes, 2018
Reconstructing 3D facial geometry from a single RGB image has recently instigated wide research interest. However, it is still an ill-posed problem and most methods rely on prior models hence undermining the accuracy of the recovered 3D faces.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Non-Scanning Three-Dimensional Imaging System with a Single-Pixel Detector: Simulation and Experimental Study

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Existing scanning laser three-dimensional (3D) imaging technology has slow measurement speed. In addition, the measurement accuracy of non-scanning laser 3D imaging technology based on area array detectors is limited by the resolution and response ...

3D reconstruction using spherical images

open access: yes3rd European Conference on Visual Media Production (CVMP 2006). Part of the 2nd Multimedia Conference 2006, 2006
A process is presented for the creation of immersive high-dynamic range 3D models from a pair of spherical images. The concept of applying a spherical Delauney triangulation to 3D model creation is introduced and a complete texturing solution is given.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...
