Compactness measure for 3D shapes

2012 International Conference on Informatics, Electronics & Vision (ICIEV), 2012
In this paper we propose a new compactness measure which defines the degree to which a 3D shape differs from a perfect sphere. The new measure is easy to compute and satisfies the following desirable properties: - it ranges over (0, 1] and gives the measured compactness equal to 1 if and only if the measured shape is a sphere; - it is invariant with ...

3D shape measurement using curvature data

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
We present a method of three dimensional shape measurement from the curvature data, which are obtained from the subaperture topography along the diagonal direction of artifact by using white-light scanning interferometry. The curvature is an intrinsic property of the artifact, which does not depend on the positioning errors of measuring sensor ...

Tunable cubeness measures for 3D shapes

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2011
In this paper we introduce cubeness measure C(S): a shape similarity measure between a given 3D shape and a cube. The cubeness measure has several desirable properties: it ranges over (0,1] and reaches 1 only when the given shape is a cube, it is invariant with respect to rotation, translation and scaling, and is also robust with respect to noise.

Gravity-based 3D shape measuring sheet

SICE Annual Conference 2007, 2007
In this paper, we introduce a novel sensing device named "3-dimensional capture sheet (3DCS)." The cloth-like sheet measures its own 3D configuration. It consists of a lattice structure inside of the sheet, and each link of the structure has a triaxial accelerometer.

New 3D-vision Sensor for Shape Measurement Applications

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
In this paper we describe a new 3D-vision sensor developed in cooperation with the Technical Research Centre of Finland, the University of Oulu, and Prometrics Oy Co. The sensor is especially intended for the non-contact measurement of the shapes and dimensions of large industrial objects.
