Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Measuring perceived 3D shape at multiple spatial scales

open access: yesVision Research, 1999
We present and test a novel multiscale representation of perceived 3D surface orientation: the orientation path. Using a multiscale probe, we measure perceived surface orientation at multiple spatial scales: linking the measurements for a given surface location yields that location's orientation path.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

High-speed 3D shape measurement using Fourier transform and stereo vision

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2018
Background In the fast 3D shape measurement, it is an important factor to use the least number of fringe patterns to get the wrapped phase and the wrapped phase is always required to be retrieved to absolute phase. But the process of phase unwrapping may

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

3D-Shape Measurement Based on Defocus Characteristic

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electronics, Information and Systems, 2009
Measurement and reconstruction of 3-dimensional scenes by a visual system is very important subject in the field of Computer Vision. In this article, we propose a method that estimates 3-dimensional structures by using only one input image obtained by a monocular camera. Blurring of image by defocus is a clue to estimating a relative range image, so we

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

3D shape measurement with thermal pattern projection

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Technologies, 2016
AbstractStructured light projection techniques are well-established optical methods for contactless and nondestructive three-dimensional (3D) measurements. Most systems operate in the visible wavelength range (VIS) due to commercially available projection and detection technology.
