Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Accurate and dynamic 3D shape measurement
Phase shifting profilometry (PSP) has been widely used in structured-light (SL) system for three-dimensional (3D) shape measurements, but the speed of PSP technique is limited by the increased phase-shifting patterns. This paper proposes an accurate and dynamic 3D shape measurement method by projecting only four patterns including three-step phase ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Mine-used pick wear measurement system based on shape from focus
For problems of complicated process, low accuracy and high cost in existing pick wear measurement methods, a mine-used pick wear measurement system based on shape from focus was designed. The collected sequence images of cone on top of pick are processed

A Combined Measurement Method for Large-Size Aerospace Components
Automated and high-accuracy three-dimensional (3D) shape measurement is required in quality control of large-size components for the aerospace industry. To eliminate the contradiction between global measurement and local precision measurement control in ...

ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Flexible 3D shape measurement using projector defocusing: extended measurement range
A recently proposed flexible 3D shape measurement technique using a defocused projector [Opt. Lett. 34, 3080 (2009)] shows great potential because of its elimination of projector's gamma calibration. However, it cannot handle step-height surfaces. I present here a technique to extend its measurement range to an arbitrary shape by integrating a binary ...
