Silhouette-Based 3D Face Shape Recovery

2003
Though realistic eulerian fluid simulation systems now provide believable movements, straightforward renderable surface representation, and affordable computation costs, they are still unable to deal with non-static objects in a realistic manner. Namely, objects can not have an influence on the fluid and be simultaneously affected by the fluid's motion.

Affects of illumination on 3D shape recovery

2008 15th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2008
In the area of machine vision, shadows occur frequently in a wide variety of scenes. An inherent weakness of focus-based methods is that they require the imaged scene to have significant texture. In many real-world applications, surfaces can be smoothly shaded and lacking in detectable texture. In such cases, shape-form-focus (SFF) generates inaccurate

3D Shape Restoration via Matrix Recovery

2011
Cultural relics are often damaged and incomplete due to various reasons. For the purpose of helping archaeological studies, we present a novel method for simultaneously restoring the original shapes of a group of similar objects. Based on the assumption that similar shapes are approximately linearly correlated, we use a matrix recovery technique to ...

Recovery of 3D Shape Based on Generalized Symmetry

Systems and Computers in Japan, 1989
AbstractWith the widening range of applications of computer graphics, simple methods of feeding graphic information into computers which matches the human senses are demanded. This paper proposes a method of reconstructing a 3D (three‐dimensional) shape from a line drawing by using generalized symmetry.

3D shape recovery of complex objects from multiple silhouette images

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2003
Summary: A reconstruction method is proposed which represents the object with a line-based geometric model. The method does not need the point correspondence information in recovering the 3D object geometry. It is based on the concept of volume intersection, but it is substantially different from the existing octree-based reconstruction methods in the ...

3D shape recovery algorithm from image orientations of textured surfaces

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2023
Previous psychophysical studies have demonstrated that the image orientation of textured surfaces guides human 3D shape perception. However, the accuracy of computational 3D shape reconstruction solely from image orientation requires further study. This paper proposes a 3D shape recovery algorithm from the image orientation of a single textured surface

3D Shape Recovery of Smooth Surfaces: Dropping the Fixed Viewpoint Assumption

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2006
We present a new method for recovering the 3D shape of a featureless smooth surface from three or more calibrated images illuminated by different light sources (three of them are independent). This method is unique in its ability to handle images taken from unconstrained perspective viewpoints and unconstrained illumination directions.
