In this paper, technologies for distribution of a variety of three-dimensional (3-D) video and 3-D TV services over IP networks are described. The approaches for encoding stereoscopic and MW have been standardized in the form of MPEG "video-plus-depth" and the JVT MVC standards.

This paper presents an overview of 3D display techniques and differentiates between the requirements of computer graphic displays and television displays. The virtues of a parallax barrier technique in the form of a scanning optical slit are expounded, and potential 3D-TV display techniques are examined.

3DTV and immersive environment
Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Ubiquitous Information Management and Communication, 2013This study analyzes user acceptance behavior of 3DTV by focusing on variables that influence attitudes and intention to adopt. Structural equation modeling is used to construct a predictive model of attitudes toward 3DTV. Individuals' responses to questions about attitude and intention to use 3DTV were collected and analyzed.

Stereoscopic 3D (S3D) movies have become widely popular in the movie theaters, but the adoption of S3D at home is low even though most TV sets support S3D. It is widely believed that S3D with glasses is not the right approach for the home. A much more appealing approach is to use automulti-scopic displays that provide a glasses-free 3D experience to ...

Exploring children's 3DTV experience
Proceedings of the 10th European Conference on Interactive TV and Video, 20123D is expected to transition from cinema to personal consumer electronics. Given that children are heavy users of consumer electronics and represent a driving force when it comes to the adoption of new technologies, it is important to investigate and understand children's experiences with new technologies.

Free-ViewPoint (FVP) interpolation allows creating a new view between the existing reference views. Applied to 3D multi-view video sequences, it leads to two important applications: (1) FVP service provided to the user, which enables the possibility to interactively select the viewing point of the scene; (2) improved compression of multi-view video ...

Challenges in 3DTV image processing
SPIE Proceedings, 2007Philips provides autostereoscopic three-dimensional display systems that will bring the next leap in visual experience, adding true depth to video systems. We identified three challenges specifically for 3D image processing: 1) bandwidth and complexity of 3D images, 2) conversion of 2D to 3D content, and 3) object-based image/depth processing.

Research and development of 3DTV has been strongly fueled by the rapid market acceptance of stereo 3D movies and underlying technology so that 3DTV is entering our everyday lives. As a result of this, the R & D community is already working on the next upcoming stages, such as multi-view processing.

Visual quality in stereoscopic 3DTV
2012 Conference Record of the Forty Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers (ASILOMAR), 2012Georgia Tech has an ongoing research program in multimedia communications, including visual quality assessment in 3DTV. As part of our 3D related research, we have studied the response of the human visual system to compressed 3D sequences and compared the visibility of artifacts in 3D and 2D views (individual left-eye and right-eye views) over a broad ...
