3DTV—Three-Dimensional Television

2020
Three-dimensional photography has been in use for more than 100 years. Simple examples could be found already at the end of the 19th century. Since the great success of the movie “Avatar” in 2009 3D has been widely talked about. There are more and more 3D cinemas and 3D displays (example Fig. 43.1).

Coding Algorithms for 3DTV—A Survey

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2007
Research efforts on 3DTV technology have been strengthened worldwide recently, covering the whole media processing chain from capture to display. Different 3DTV systems rely on different 3-D scene representations that integrate various types of data. Efficient coding of these data is crucial for the success of 3DTV.

3DTV - Dreidimensionales Fernsehen

2016
Dreidimensionale Fotografie gibt es schon seit deutlich uber 100 Jahren. Ansatze hierfur waren schon Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts vorhanden.

All-around ray-reproducing 3DTV

2011 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2011
We have developed a 3DTV system that captures and shows 3D images that covers 360-degree of viewing zone horizontally. 3D images are captured and reproduced as gathering of dense light rays. This system consists of a cylinder-shaped 3D display that allows viewers to see 3D images from 360-degree, a ray capturing unit, a realtime image correction unit ...

Depth camera for 3DTV applications

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
In this paper, we present the depth value accuracy requirements for novel view synthesis in 3DTV and our approach for depth camera based on hybrid method of structured light and active stereo matching. We first review the background on the use of multiview video plus depth(MVD) representation for future 3DTV system, depth acquisition methods and ...

3DTV Broadcasting and Distribution Systems

IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting, 2011
In this paper, the authors present three-dimensional television (3DTV) broadcasting and distribution systems that are employed to deliver a pair of stereoscopic images to mobile users, as well as users at home. First, mobile 3DTV systems and services based on DMB and DVB-H are respectively introduced.

3DTV and 3d video communications

Proceedings of the 13th ACM international conference on Modeling, analysis, and simulation of wireless and mobile systems, 2010
With wider availability of low cost multi-view cameras, 3D displays, and broadband communication options, 3D media is destined to move from the movie theater to home and mobile platforms. In the near term, popular 3D media will most likely be in the form of stereoscopic video with associated spatial audio.

FTV and all-around 3DTV

2011 Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP), 2011
FTV (Free-viewpoint TV) is the ultimate 3DTV that delivers the replica of a 3D scene and enables us to view the scene by freely changing our viewpoints. We realized FTV by developing various types of ray capture, processing and display technologies. We have also realized an all-around ray-reproducing 3DTV.

Uncalibrated Camera Based Interactive 3DTV

2011
In this paper we propose a novel architecture for an interactive 3DTV system based on multiple uncalibrated cameras placed at general positions. The signal representation scheme proposed is compatible with the standard multi view coding framework making it amenable to using existing coding and compression algorithms.
