Autofocus on Depth of Interest for 3D Image Coding

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
For some 3D applications, one may want to focus on a specific depth zone representing a region of interest in the scene. In this context, we introduce a new functionality called “autofocus” for 3D image coding, exploiting the depth map as an additional semantic information provided by the 3D sequence. The method is based on a joint “Depth of Interest” (

Decoupled Multicamera Sensing for Flexible View Generation

open access: yesJournal of Sensors, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Any sensing paradigm has three important components, namely, the actor, the sensor, and the environment. Traditionally, the sensors have been attached to either the actor or the environment. This restricts the kind of sensing that can be undertaken. We study a newer decoupled sensing paradigm, which separates the sensors from both the actor and the ...

No-reference synthetic image quality assessment with convolutional neural network and local image saliency

open access: yesComputational Visual Media, 2019
Depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) is widely used in 3DTV, free-viewpoint video, and interactive 3D graphics applications. Typically, synthetic images generated by DIBR-based systems incorporate various distortions, particularly geometric distortions ...

Baseline and triangulation geometry in a standard plenoptic camera [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we demonstrate light field triangulation to determine depth distances and baselines in a plenoptic camera. The advancement of micro lenses and image sensors enabled plenoptic cameras to capture a scene from different viewpoints with ...

A Novel High Efficiency Fractal Multiview Video Codec

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Multiview video which is one of the main types of three‐dimensional (3D) video signals, captured by a set of video cameras from various viewpoints, has attracted much interest recently. Data compression for multiview video has become a major issue. In this paper, a novel high efficiency fractal multiview video codec is proposed.

Reliable fusion of ToF and stereo depth driven by confidence measures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we propose a framework for the fusion of depth data produced by a Time-of-Flight (ToF) camera and stereo vision system. Initially, depth data acquired by the ToF camera are upsampled by an ad-hoc algorithm based on image segmentation and ...

Scene Representation Technologies for 3DTV—A Survey [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2007
3-D scene representation is utilized during scene extraction, modeling, transmission and display stages of a 3DTV framework. To this end, different representation technologies are proposed to fulfill the requirements of 3DTV paradigm. Dense point-based methods are appropriate for free-view 3DTV applications, since they can generate novel views easily ...
