On a generalized hexagonal dart board problem

open access: yes
Jung\u27s theorem says that planar sets of diameter $1$ can be covered by a closed circular disc of radius $\frac 1{\sqrt3}$. In this paper we will restrict ourselves to finite point sets and consider a fractional Jung-type problem.

A Finite-Word Refinement Obstruction to Cyclic Closure in the 3n+1 Problem

open access: yes
This preprint studies possible nontrivial cycles in the Collatz problem by examining the inverse structure of the odd-to-odd map. Instead of treating a cycle as a loose repetition of values, the paper tracks finite lists of admissible step choices and shows that each such list occupies a specific arithmetic location in a growing refinement structure ...

Finite-Word Refinement and the Exclusion of Cycles and Runaway Orbits in the 3n+1 Problem

open access: yes
This paper studies the 3n+1 problem through the finite structure of inverse odd-step words. Each finite word determines a single admissible residue thread, an affine inverse action, and a dyadic image spacing. This gives a coordinate system for distinguishing directed continuation, same-word restart, cyclic closure, and possible runaway behavior.
