Energy Consumption Analysis of a Large Building at Memorial University

open access: yesJournal of Energy, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
In this paper, energy consumption analysis and a process to identify appropriate models based on heat dynamics for large structures are presented. The analysis uses data from heating, ventilation, and air‐conditioning (HVAC) system sensors, as well as data from the indoor climate and energy software (IDA Indoor Climate and Energy (IDA‐ICE) 4.7 ...

AUV‐Based Plume Tracking: A Simulation Study

open access: yesJournal of Control Science and Engineering, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
This paper presents a simulation study of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) navigation system operating in a GPS‐denied environment. The AUV navigation method makes use of underwater transponder positioning and requires only one transponder. A multirate unscented Kalman filter is used to determine the AUV orientation and position by fusing high ...

Decentralized Cooperative Localization Approach for Autonomous Multirobot Systems

open access: yesJournal of Robotics, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
This study proposes the use of a split covariance intersection algorithm (Split‐CI) for decentralized multirobot cooperative localization. In the proposed method, each robot maintains a local cubature Kalman filter to estimate its own pose in a predefined coordinate frame.

RSW‐MCFP: A Resource‐Oriented Solid Waste Management System for a Mixed Rural‐Urban Area through Monte Carlo Simulation‐Based Fuzzy Programming

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
The growth of global population and economy continually increases the waste volumes and consequently creates challenges to handle and dispose solid wastes. It becomes more challenging in mixed rural‐urban areas (i.e., areas of mixed land use for rural and urban purposes) where both agricultural waste (e.g., manure) and municipal solid waste are ...

Synthesis of (−)‐Cannabidiol (CBD), (−)‐Δ9‐ and (−)‐Δ8‐Tetrahydrocannabinols, Encapsulation of CBD with Nanoparticles for Controlled Delivery and Biological Evaluation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 70, December 13, 2024.
A high‐yielding, selective and scalable synthesis of (−)‐cannabidiol (CBD) has been developed via a straightforward Friedel‐Crafts reaction of olivetol mediated by FeCl3. The synthetic CBD was employed for its encapsulation in solid and hollow pH‐ and temperature‐sensitive nanoparticles, being evaluated their release, solubility, bioavailability and ...

Halogen Bonding in N‐Alkyl‐Bromo‐/Lodo‐Pyridinium Salts and its Application in Chromatography

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 68, December 5, 2024.
Para‐ and meta‐halogenated pyridinium cations exhibit a high propensity for halogen bonding towards their anions, which we demonstrated by x‐ray crystallography and quantum‐chemical calculations. Due to the high stability of the meta‐halogenated derivatives against nucleophilic attack and even 0.1 M NaOH, the 3‐iodopyridinium moiety was grafted onto a ...

Synthesis of N‐Glycosylated Soluble Fas Ligand

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 24, April 25, 2024.
Chemical access to the enigmatic death receptor ligand sFasL in its glycosylated version using a combination of native chemical and diselenide selenoester ligation. Abstract Controlled cell death is essential for the regulation of the immune system and plays a role in pathogen defense.

Active fault‐tolerant load frequency control for multi‐area power systems with electric vehicles under deception attacks

open access: yesIET Control Theory &Applications, Volume 18, Issue 1, Page 109-124, January 2024.
The proportional‐derivative sliding mode observer is used to estimate the fault and system status in real‐time. During the fault occurrence, the estimated value obtained by the observer is utilized to design the controller without any fault diagnosis scheme, which simplifies the controller design process.
