Study on 1, 3, 4-Oxadiazole Derivatives as an Antibacterial and Antifungal Agents

In the present investigation a new series of 1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles (3a-j) were synthesized by reacting INH (1) and substituted aromatic acids (2) in presence of POCl3. The new compounds were established on the basis of IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral data.

The synthesis of arylethylene derivatives of 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole by the Wittig reaction from 2-(p-bromomethylphenyl)-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole and aromatic aldehydes is described. The compounds obtained fluoresce strongly on irradiation with UV light.
