Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the

Outbreak of Marburg hemorrhagic fever among miners in Kamwenge and Ibanda Districts, Uganda, 2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Marburg hemorrhagic fever was detected among 4 miners in Ibanda District, Uganda, from June through September, 2007. Infection was likely acquired through exposure to bats or bat secretions in a mine in Kamwenge District, Uganda, and possibly human-to ...

Expression and DNA methylation of 20S proteasome subunits as prognostic and resistance markers in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Comprehensive analysis of genomic mutations, gene expression, DNA methylation, and pathway analysis of TCGA data was carried out to define cancer types in which proteasome subunits expression is associated with worse survival. Albeit the effect of specific proteasome subunits on cellular function, the main role of the proteasome is better evaluated ...

4. Liberal Education and the Capitalocene in American Higher Education

open access: yesPhilosophy and Theory in Higher Education, 2019
Data-driven control is remaking American higher education as the Capitalocene is remaking environment around us. In higher education, how might we orientate the queer potential of liberal education to produce the conditions of possibility of an Earth beyond the Capitalocene and data-driven control, an Earth that produces expansive notions of student ...

Data‐driven discovery of gene expression markers distinguishing pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia subtypes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates gene expression differences between two major pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) subtypes, B‐cell precursor ALL, and T‐cell ALL, using a data‐driven approach consisting of biostatistics and machine learning methods. Following analysis of a discovery dataset, we find a set of 14 expression markers differentiating the ...

Editorial: The effects of policies for the education and learning of adults - from \u27adult education\u27 to \u27lifelong learning\u27, from \u27emancipation\u27 to \u27empowerment\u27 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Practices of adult education and learning have historically been closely related to policy arrangements – often by defining and reproducing the culture of local, regional or subcultural communities – but increasingly in the service of the consolidation ...

MicroRNA 196a contributes to the aggressiveness of esophageal adenocarcinoma through the MYC/TERT/NFκB axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
mir‐196a promotes Esophagus Adenocarcinoma aggressiveness. On one hand, mir‐196a targets the valosin‐containing protein (VCP) mRNA, causing the accumulation of c‐MYC protein that leads to high amounts of TERT. On the other hand, mir‐196a targets the inhibitor of NFκB (NFKBIA).

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect
