High-spin states in 40K and 42Ca

Abstract High spin states in 40K and 42Ca have been investigated using the 27 Al ( 19 F , xyzγ) 40 K , 42 Ca reaction. In-beam measurements of γ-γ coincidences. γ-ray excitation functions and angular distributions were performed with Ge(Li) detectors, one of which had a Nal Compton suppression shield.

High precision determination of the terrestrial 40K abundance

Abstract Recent improvements in the precision of mass spectrometric measurements have reduced the uncertainty of K–Ar and 39 Ar– 40 Ar ages measured on geological materials. Now the major sources of uncertainty are the uncertainties on the 40 K decay constant and the absolute abundance of 40 K.

Schematic model calculations for 40K(β−)40Ca

Abstract The experimental lifetime of the unique third-forbidden beta-decay branch 40 K( β − ) 40 Ca is five times longer than single-particle estimates for the transition. Using an extended version of the schematic model, this hindrance can be traced to the repulsive nature of the T = 1 particle-hole force.

Abstract Several 40 K single-stage coaxial high frequency pulse tube cryocoolers (PTCs) have been developed to provide reliable and low-noise cooling for GaAs/AlGaAs Quantum-Well infrared photodetectors (QWIPs). The inertance tubes together with the gas reservoir become the only phase shifter to guarantee the required long-term stability.

[40K study in laryngeal and stomach cancer].

Total potassium was assayed in 101 patients (58--laryngeal cancer and 43--stomach cancer) on the basis of natural background radiation of 40K in a low background chamber. Both cellular and extracellular mass of the body was determined. Control group included 260 healthy subjects. Deficiency in cellular and extracellular mass was established.

40K-87Rb Feshbach resonances: Modeling the interatomic potential

We have observed 28 heteronuclear Feshbach resonances in ten spin combinations of the hyperfine ground states of a 40K−87Rb mixture. The measurements were performed by observing the loss rates from an atomic mixture at magnetic fields between 0 and 700G.
