Background – In clinical practice, the diagnosis of otitis externa (OE) normally is based on otoscopic examination and cytological findings, followed by empirical treatment with topic drugs. Biofilm‐producing bacteria are frequently present in OE, even if its presence is often underdiagnosed. Hypothesis/Objectives – The primary aim of this study was to

Background Antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (SP) and the prevalence of meticillin‐resistant SP (MRSP) is increasing in dogs worldwide. Objectives To evaluate the influence of hospital size on antimicrobial resistance of SP and whether restricted use of antimicrobials based on antibiograms could reduce the identification of ...

A semicircle law and decorrelation phenomena for iterated Kolmogorov loops
Abstract We consider a standard one‐dimensional Brownian motion on the time interval [0,1] conditioned to have vanishing iterated time integrals up to order N. We show that the resulting processes can be expressed explicitly in terms of shifted Legendre polynomials and the original Brownian motion, and we use these representations to prove that the ...

Asymptotics for orthogonal polynomials off the circle
We study the strong asymptotics of orthogonal polynomials with respect to a measure of the type dμ/2π+∑j=1∞Ajδ(z−zk), where μ is a positive measure on the unit circle Γ satisfying the Szegö condition and {zj} j=1∞ are fixed points outside Γ. The masses {Aj} j=1∞ are positive numbers such that ∑j=1∞Aj<+∞.

Strong asymptotics for Lp extremal polynomials off a complex curve
We study the asymptotic behavior of Lp(σ) extremal polynomials with respect to a measure of the form σ = α + γ, where α is a measure concentrated on a rectifiable Jordan curve in the complex plane and γ is a discrete measure concentrated on an infinite number of mass points.

Using a general and simple algebraic approach, some results on Krall‐type orthogonal polynomials and some of their extensions are obtained.

The second‐order self‐associated orthogonal sequences
The aim of this work is to describe the orthogonal polynomials sequences which are identical to their second associated sequence. The resulting polynomials are semiclassical of class s ≤ 3. The characteristic elements of the structure relation and of the second‐order differential equation are given explicitly.

Strict positive definiteness on spheres via disk polynomials
We characterize complex strictly positive definite functions on spheres in two cases, the unit sphere of ℂq, q ≥ 3, and the unit sphere of the complex ℓ2. The results depend upon the Fourier‐like expansion of the functions in terms of disk polynomials and, among other things, they enlarge the classes of strictly positive definite functions on real ...

We study the asymptotic behavior of orthogonal polynomials. The measure is concentrated on a complex rectifiable arc and has an infinity of masses in the region exterior to the arc.

We give explicitly the recurrence coefficients of a nonsymmetric semi‐classical sequence of polynomials of class s = 1. This sequence generalizes the Jacobi polynomial sequence, that is, we give a new orthogonal sequence {Pˆn(α,α+1)(x,μ)}, where μ is an arbitrary parameter with ℜ(1 − μ) > 0 in such a way that for μ = 0 one has the well‐known Jacobi ...
