Origami-inspired 4D printing

2022
Four-dimensional (4D) printing recently emerges as an important development by adding a time dimension to 3D printing technology. The fabricated structures by 4D printing have been developed so that can transform their geometry precisely from a flat shape to a deployed configuration in response to an environmental stimulus.

4D Printing in Pharmaceuticals

2023
The term four-dimensional (4D) printing refers to the fabrication via additive manufacturing (AM) of structures with the capability to shape transform over time under a predefined stimulus (e.g., temperature, pH, electric field, humidity). Since its introduction in 2013, 4D printing has been in rapid expansion in several fields, including smart ...

4D Printed Soft Robot

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2018
Hydrogels are capable of absorbing large amounts of liquid or biological fluids in three-dimensional polymeric networks. The properties of smart gels can be controlled or tuned by external stimuli such as heat, optics, solvent, and pH. Shape-memory gels (SMGs) are kind of smart material that have the ability to demonstrate reversible shape ...

4D Printing A-line

Extended Abstracts of the 2019 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2019
In this video, we showcased "A-line", a 4D printing system for designing and fabricating morphing three-dimensional shapes out of simple linear elements. A-line integrates a method of bending angle control in up to eight directions for one printed line segment, using a single type of thermoplastic material.

4D printing of biopolymers

2023
Four-dimensional (4D) printing of biopolymers is an exciting field of research that has emerged over the last decade. It encompasses printing smart polymeric materials that change their geometrical properties, such as shape, size, and volume, as well as mechanical properties, such as stiffness, upon stimulation with an external stimulus.

Pattern-driven 4D printing

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2018
Abstract Self-bending actuators have time and cost reduction benefits for applications like self-assembly and self-deployable structures. Three-dimensional (3D) printing is a promising rapid and accurate manufacturing method for controlling spatial self-bending actuation in custom-designed soft structures.
