A 530-GHz balanced mixer [PDF]
We report on the design and performance of a 530-GHz balanced SIS mixer, the first balanced mixer in this frequency range. This quasi-optical balanced mixer utilizes a cross-slot antenna on a hyperhemispherical substrate lens with eight superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) junctions and a 180/spl deg/ lumped element IF hybrid circuit.

Production of J/psi Mesons in p Be Collisions at 530 and 800 GeV/c [PDF]
We report on the production of J/psi mesons in 530 and 800 GeV/c proton - Be collisions in the Feynman-x range 0.0 < xf < 0.6. The J/psi mesons were detected via decays into opposite sign muon pairs. Differential distributions for J/psi production have been measured as functions of xf, pT^2, and cosine of the Gottfried-Jackson decay angle.

Post midnight spread-F occurrence over Waltair (17.7° N, 83.3° E) during low and ascending phases of solar activity [PDF]
A study carried out on the occurrence of post midnight spread-F events at a low-latitude station, Waltair (17.7° N, 83.3° E), India revealed that its occurrence is maximum in the summer solstice months of the low solar activity period and decreases

Aerosol spectral optical depths and size characteristics at a coastal industriallocation in India - effect of synoptic and mesoscale weather [PDF]
The aerosol spectral optical depths at ten discrete channels in the visible and near IR bands, obtained from a ground-based passive multi-wavelength solar radiometer at a coastal industrial location, Visakhapatnam, on the east coast of India, are used ...

Subducted lithosphere or 530 km discontinuity? [PDF]
Tomographic images of the mantle west of Japan and south Kuril islands suggest that in this region the subducted lithospheric slabs instead of penetrating the lower mantle, lie flat on top of it [van der Hilst et al., 1991; Fukao et al., 1992]. To test these models with independent data and techniques, we analyse the slowness of the P arrivals of Kuril‐
