Liver Disease Predicts 30‐Day Postoperative Complications in Head and Neck Microvascular Surgery

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
While liver disease is known to affect surgical outcomes, its impact on head and neck microvascular free tissue transfer surgeries remains unexamined. This study uses the NSQIP national database to analyze the relationship between liver disease severity, determined by APRI and MELD‐Na scores, and postoperative complications.

Gas transfer velocity (k600$$ {k}_{600} $$) increases with discharge in steep streams but not in low‐slope streams

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, EarlyView.
Abstract Gas transfer velocity (k600$$ {\mathrm{k}}_{600} $$) controls gas fluxes between aquatic ecosystems and the atmosphere. In streams, k600$$ {\mathrm{k}}_{600} $$ is controlled by turbulence and, thus, local hydrology and geomorphology. Resultantly, variability in k600$$ {\mathrm{k}}_{600} $$ can be large and modeling k600$$ {\mathrm{k}}_{600} $$

Maximized Enhancement of Polarized and Unpolarized Emissions via Critical Coupling in Brillouin Zone Folding Metasurfaces

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Maximized emission enhancement is experimentally achieved using critical coupling in Brillouin zone folding metasurfaces. Maximized enhancements of polarized and unpolarized emissions from quantum dot‐coated dielectric metasurfaces are demonstrated in the normal direction.

Offshore Weathering Campaign on a North Sea Wind Farm Part One: Corrosivity Categories

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
To optimize the corrosion protection conditions, the corrosiveness of offshore wind turbines must be determined in several necessary areas of the structure. Therefore detailed investigations were done at real structures. ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to investigate the corrosion behavior of materials and coatings in offshore environments, with a ...
