Membralin Assembles a MAN1B1–VCP Complex to Target Foreign Glycoproteins from the Endoplasmic Reticulum to Lysosomes for Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies Membralin as an ER‐phagy receptor that recruits MAN1B1 and VCP to form a selective ERLAD complex. By sensing dense N‐glycan clusters on viral fusion glycoproteins, this ubiquitin‐independent pathway directs SARS‐CoV‐2 spike, Ebola GP, influenza HA, and HIV‐1 Env to lysosomal degradation, thereby limiting viral infectivity ...

The Curious Question of Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Edema

open access: yesPulmonary Medicine, 2011
The question of whether pulmonary edema develops during exercise on land is controversial. Yet, the development of pulmonary edema during swimming and diving is well established.

Rearing calves outdoors with and without calf jackets compared with indoor housing on calf health and live-weight performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
peer-reviewedThe objective of this study was to compare the effects of rearing calves outdoors, with and without all-weather calf jackets, with calves reared indoors on calf immunity and animal performance. In February 1999, male Holstein calves (mean (

A Formable Wood‐Based Phase Change Materials with Enhanced Mechanical Properties and Thermal Efficiency for Smart Building

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A wood‐form‐stable phase change composite featuring a tensile strength of 134.42 MPa, zero leakage under load, and a phase change enthalpy of 94.73 J g−1 is developed through a structural biomimicry and dual‐network reinforcement strategy. With its exceptional shape stability and remarkable phase change performance, this phase change composite is well ...

Reimagining o‐Carborane‐Based Fluorophores: Charge‐Transfer from Boron Substituents Triggers Aggregation‐ and Crystallization‐Induced Emission

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This work reports, for the first time, aggregation‐ or crystallization‐induced emission in boron‐substituted carboranes, which was driven by photoinduced charge‐transfer from fluorophore attached via boron vertices. The emission properties can be tuned by varying the substituents, expanding design strategies for luminescent materials.

The effect of rider weight and additional weight in Icelandic horses in tölt: part I. Physiological responses

open access: yesAnimal, 2017
This study examined the effect of increasing BW ratio (BWR) between rider and horse, in the BWR range common for Icelandic horses (20% to 35%), on heart rate (HR), plasma lactate concentration (Lac), BWR at Lac 4 mmol/l (W4), breathing frequency (BF ...
