A power law distribution in patients' lengths of stay in hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The distribution of patients' lengths of stay in English hospitals is measured by using routinely collected data from 11 years. It is found to be well approximated by a power law distribution spanning over more than 3 decades.

Temporal Modeling of Amyloid and Tau Trajectories in Alzheimer's Disease Using PET and Plasma Biomarkers

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to compare positron emission tomography (PET) and plasma‐based temporal modeling of amyloid and tau biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease. Methods Longitudinal amyloid PET (n = 1,097, mean age ± SD = 72.5 ± 7.38 year, 51.4% male), 18F‐flortaucipir tau‐PET (n = 230, 74.3 ± 7.18 year, 52.2% female), and Fujirebio Lumipulse plasma p‐

Effect of Mg17Al12 Fraction on Mechanical Properties of Mg-9%Al-1%Zn Cast Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2016
In the current study it was observed that the offset yield point of Mg-9%Al-1%Zn alloy was strongly influenced by the connectivity of Mg17Al12. It was suggested that an increase in the fraction of Mg17Al12 from 8% to 11% could lead to the formation of a ...

Polyfluoralkylierte zellpenetrierende Peptid‐Additive verbessern die intrazelluläre Proteinaufnahme durch eine anhaltende und monomere Lipidinteraktion

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.

Information Underload: Florida's Flawed Special-Ed Voucher Program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Despite its growing popularity, and the attention paid both by state and national education reformers, Florida's McKay voucher program has yet to prove that it works as either an adequate school-choice or special-education reform ...

Polyfluoroalkyl‐Tagged Cell‐Penetrating Peptide‐Additives Enhance Intracellular Protein Delivery via Sustained Monomeric Lipid Interaction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
We introduce cell‐penetrating peptides (CPPs) with polyfluoroalkyl‐tags that drastically enhance intracellular protein delivery by promoting membrane retention. Via the combination of live‐cell imaging, biophysical analysis, and computational simulations, we reveal how fluorous CPPs interact with membranes via monomeric interactions and dynamic tag ...

The Curious Question of Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Edema

open access: yesPulmonary Medicine, 2011
The question of whether pulmonary edema develops during exercise on land is controversial. Yet, the development of pulmonary edema during swimming and diving is well established.

Reverse method for labeling the information from semi-structured web pages

open access: yes, 2009
We propose a new technique to infer the structure and extract the tokens of data from the semi-structured web sources which are generated using a consistent template or layout with some implicit regularities.
