Cold‐Air Pooling and Temperature‐Elevation Mapping in a Colorado Watershed

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Near‐surface air temperature grids are important environmental model forcings. In narrow mountain valleys, most gridded products are too coarse to resolve variability across slopes, so regional studies often map temperature across terrain following locally determined lapse rates.

Projected 5G Interference Can Degrade Passive Microwave Radiance Assimilation and Alter High‐Impact Weather Forecasts

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Passive microwave radiances near 23.8 GHz constrain lower‐tropospheric water vapor, but this protected window lies adjacent to fifth‐generation (5G) telecommunications spectrum. We quantify how projected terrestrial 5G leakage propagates through county‐scale deployment projections, directional antenna geometry, synthetic contamination of AMSU ...

Tracing Mantle Upwellings Beneath Changbaishan/Mount Paektu: New Insights From Transition Zone Discontinuity Structure

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract Intraplate volcanism in Northeast Asia, located in a distant back‐arc setting, challenges conventional models of mantle convection and volatile cycling. Using receiver function data from over 300 broadband stations, we image the mantle transition zone (MTZ) beneath the Changbaishan/Paektu volcano.
