Secondary Synchronization Signal in 5G New Radio
2018 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2018We propose a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) for the fifth generation (5G) New Radio (NR) communication systems, which is based on the element-wise multiplication of two BPSK modulated m-sequences with different cyclic shifts encoding the physical cell identity (ID) carried by the NR SSS.

NR - The New 5G Radio-Access Technology
2018 IEEE 87th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring), 2018This paper provides a detailed overview of the key technology features of the new 5G/NR radio-access technology, the first release of which has recently been published by 3GPP release 15, of the NR specifications finalized by the end of 2017. This first release is limited to non-standalone NR operation, implying that NR devices rely on LTE for initial ...

Polar codes are simple codes, which are based on the polarization effect of the polarisation matrix and they are the first to achieve Shannon’s channel capacity for binary discrete memoryless channels. The straightforward encoding and decoding processes of polar codes makes it suitable for the fifth generation (5G) new radio, which requires higher ...

A Preview on MIMO Systems in 5G New Radio
2018With 3GPP 5G new radio (NR), proposals are already being discussed. Although participants offer various suggestions for the first 5G standardization, common ideas can already be identified. The purpose of the paper is to anticipate, in the context of massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, the main directions the standard would focus on;

5G New Radio in Unlicensed Spectrum
2021The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Rel-16 introduced New Radio (NR) operation in unlicensed spectrum. This is a promising feature that is expected to accommodate large bandwidth for NR worldwide. Generally speaking, operation in unlicensed spectrum uses the Rel-15 NR design as a baseline with some design enhancements to support operation in ...

A Fast Beam Training Method for 5G New Radio
2020 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC), 2020Millimeter wave communication requires a highly directional transmission link between the base station and the user equipment, which may increase the time of initial access and affect the experience of delay-sensitive users. Considering the initial access technique based on analog beamforming, this paper proposes a fast beam training method for random ...

Physical downlink control channel for 5G new radio
2017 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC), 2017New radio technologies for the fifth generation of wireless system have been extensively studied globally. Specifically, air interface protocols for 5G radio access network will be standardized in coming years by 3GPP. All basic physical layer functions for the new radio system are currently under active development in 3GPP. Due to its crucial function

5G New Radio UL Coverage with Peak Clipping
2017 IEEE 86th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC-Fall), 2017For the 5G new radio physical layer the CP-OFDM waveform has been chosen as the baseline for communications below 40 GHz. The requirement for multicarrier waveforms used for uplink is to achieve similar coverage as achieved by SC-FDMA in LTE uplink.
