The Saturated and Supercritical Stirling Cycle Thermodynamic Heat Engine Cycle

open access: yes, 2018
On the assumption that experimentally validated tabulated thermodynamic properties of saturated fluids published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology are accurate, a theoretical thermodynamic cycle can be demonstrated that produces a net-

Suitability of emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) eggs for in ovo imaging research as an alternative to conventional animal model: First experience and non‐invasive investigation of physiological embryonal development on computed tomography

open access: yesActa Zoologica, Volume 106, Issue 1, Page 55-64, January 2025.
Abstract Fertilized bird eggs are an alternative model to conventional animal testing. In recent studies, a preclinical imaging model based on large ostrich eggs was introduced in a clinical research centre using imaging systems designed for humans, thus bypassing the need for dedicated small animal imaging systems.

Determinants of the haemoglobin level in patients with sickle cell disease living in sub‐Saharan Africa: Major impact of the country of residence and independent effects of leucocyte and platelet counts and haemolysis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, Volume 205, Issue 2, Page 664-673, August 2024.
Multivariate analysis revealed independent associations between Hb level and several factors, including the country of residence, gender, BMI, haemolysis parameters (LDH level, reticulocyte count) and platelet and leucocyte counts. Summary The degree of anaemia in sickle cell disease (SCD) is a well‐known contributor to morbidity and mortality.

The substructure of stasis-theory from Hermagoras to Hermogenes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
This paper analyses the history of the scheme aition, sunekhon, krinomenon in the rhetorical theory of stasis (issue-theory). The role of this scheme in the theory of Hermagoras of Temnos is reconstructed; it is shown that successive changes of position ...

Seed yield and quality of interspecific hybrids of Paspalum plicatulum × P. guenoarum at different harvest times

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 64, Issue 2, Page 697-709, March/April 2024.
Abstract Paspalum guenoarum is a warm‐season perennial grass, with a caespitose growth habit. The species is native to southern Brazilian grasslands and has been used in interspecific hybridizations because of its high palatability, resistance to trampling and grazing, and cold tolerance.

Association between perinatal and early life exposures and lung function in Australian Indigenous young adults: The Aboriginal Birth Cohort study

open access: yesRespirology, Volume 29, Issue 2, Page 166-175, February 2024.
Our study provides first estimates on the proportion of Indigenous Australians with abnormal spirometry and FEV1 below the population mean. We also demonstrate maternal and early childhood factors associated with impaired lung function. The findings contribute to the evidence in support of optimization of respiratory health in early childhood.

Spectroradiometric calibration of the Thematic Mapper and Multispectral Scanner system [PDF]

open access: yes
The newly built Caste spectropolarimeters gave satisfactory performance during tests in the solar radiometer and helicopter modes. A bandwidth normalization technique based on analysis of the moments of the spectral responsivity curves was used to ...

SUSY signals with small and large trilinear couplings at the LHC 7 TeV runs and neutralino dark matter

open access: yes, 2011
We propose the signal $1b+1l+N_j+\etslash$ along with appropriate selection criteria for the LHC 7 TeV run, where the number of jets $(N_j)$ is $\ge$ 2 or 4.
