Near‐Field Phonon Nanoscopy and Imaging of Structural Variants in Mixed Phase BiFeO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nano‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scattering scanning near‐field optical microscopy imaging reveal the phonon response of nanoscale phase variants in mixed‐phase BiFeO3 (BFO). Direct mid‐infrared imaging of associated distinct vibrational signatures is used as a non‐invasive optical detection method for electrical switching of ...

Metabolism of the dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers mebudipine and dibudipine by isolated rat hepatocytes [PDF]

open access: yes
The prototype 1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) nifedipine, indicated for the management of hypertension and angina pectoris, has drawbacks of rapid onset of vasodilating action and a short half-life.

Land, freedom and the making of the medieval West [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In the course of the fifth and sixth centuries, barbarian warbands acquired property rights in the former provinces of the Roman west, in a process that established the broad structural characteristics of early medieval society in western Europe: that is

Self‐organized Criticality in Neuromorphic Nanowire Networks With Tunable and Local Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Memristive nanowire networks (NWNs) are shown to be electrically tunable to a critical state where specific local dynamics evaluated by multiterminal characterization are exploited as feature selection in nonlinear transformation (NLT) tasks.

The Dipping Source X1254-690 Observed with GINGA [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 1997
The results of Ginga observations of the dipping X-ray source X1254-690 are presented. The persistent emission spectrum cannot be represented with conventional two-component models; an additional spectral structure, which can be represented either by a broad emission line or by reflection by warm matter, is required.

Tailoring Hole‐Blocking Layers Enables a Versatile Approach for Fast Photomultiplication‐Type Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of hole‐blocking layers (HBLs), particularly the combination of two HBLs in photomultiplication‐type organic photodetectors (PM‐OPDs), which results in high gain and record‐fast response. The proposed HBL strategy also allows for the use of photoactive layer with balanced donor–acceptor stoichiometry, which can be ...

The effects of dust on the optical and infrared evolution of SN 2004et

open access: yes, 2011
We present an analysis of multi-epoch observations of the Type II-P supernova SN 2004et. New and archival optical spectra of SN 2004et are used to study the evolution of the Halpha and [O I] 6300A line profiles between days 259 and 646.

Stable, Easy‐to‐Handle, Fully Autologous Electrospun Polymer‐Peptide Skin Equivalent for Severe Burn Injuries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bioengineered skin equivalent composed of electrospun poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and the bioactive peptide Fmoc‐FRGD is developed for severe burn treatment. This scaffold promotes full‐thickness skin regeneration by supporting cellular adhesion and integration. In‐vitro and in‐vivo studies show enhanced mechanical stability, accelerated wound closure,

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...
