D6 Family Symmetry and Cold Dark Matter at LHC

open access: yes, 2008
We consider a non-supersymmetric extension of the standard model with a family symmetry based on D6 Z2 Z2, where one of Z2's is exactly conserved. This Z2 forbids the tree-level neutrino masses and simultaneously ensures the stability of cold dark matter

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) - Affordable and Clean Energy: A preliminary review of the Sarawak scenario

open access: yesEnvironment-Behaviour Proceedings Journal
The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 7 seeks to ensure universal access to affordable and clean energy for all. This paper reviews the progress and challenges related to SDG 7 implementation by focusing on Sarawak, Malaysia. To produce the energy needed to attract investments to propel its economy, Sarawak leverages on constructing mega ...

Note on neutron star equation of state in the light of GW170817

open access: yes, 2019
From the very first multimessenger event of GW170817, clean robust constraints can be obtained for the tidal deformabilities of the two stars involved in the merger, which provides us unique opportunity to study the equation of states (EOSs) of dense ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Characteristics of successful risk management in product design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The paper reports results of one of the largest empirical studies to-date on the impact of design risk management practices on product design success. Through a survey of 224 practices, 38 (in 7 categories) where found to be statistically significant for

Growth of epitaxially oriented Ag nanoislands on air-oxidized Si(111)-(7x7) surfaces: Influence of short range order on the substrate

open access: yes, 2010
Clean Si(111)-(7{x7) surfaces, followed by air-exposure, have been investigated by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM).

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Possible evidence of a spontaneous spin-polarization in mesoscopic 2D electron systems

open access: yes, 2003
We have experimentally studied the non-equilibrium transport in low-density clean 2D electron systems at mesoscopic length scales. At zero magnetic field (B), a double-peak structure in the non-linear conductance was observed close to the Fermi energy in

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.
