Interaction as enquiry: learning with layered dynamic media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The interactivity afforded to the learner by the computer based media is often fairly restricted. This may be by design choice but is often brought about by resource constraints.

Embedding Principal Component Analysis for Data Reductionin Structural Health Monitoring on Low-Cost IoT Gateways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Principal component analysis (PCA) is a powerful data reductionmethod for Structural Health Monitoring. However, its computa-tional cost and data memory footprint pose a significant challengewhen PCA has to run on limited capability embedded platformsin ...

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

The Role of Senescent CD8+T Cells in the Pathogenesis of Disseminated Leishmaniasis

open access: yesPathogens
Disseminated leishmaniasis (DL) caused by L. braziliensis is characterized by the presence of 10 to more than 1000 lesions spread on the body. While protection against Leishmania is mediated by macrophages upon activation by IFN-γ produced by CD4+T cells,

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.

Searching for G-Quadruplex-Binding Proteins in Plants: New Insight into Possible G-Quadruplex Regulation

open access: yesBioTech, 2021
G-quadruplexes are four-stranded nucleic acid structures occurring in the genomes of all living organisms and viruses. It is increasingly evident that these structures play important molecular roles; generally, by modulating gene expression and overall ...

Prevalence of abnormalities in knees detected by MRI in adults without knee osteoarthritis: population based observational study (Framingham Osteoarthritis Study) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Objective: To examine use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of knees with no radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis to determine the prevalence of structural lesions associated with osteoarthritis and their relation to age, sex, and obesity.

Efficient determination of vehicle emission factors by fuel use category using on-road measurements: downward trends on Los Angeles freight corridor I-710.

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
To evaluate the success of vehicle emissions regulations, trends in both fleet-wide average emissions as well as high-emitter emissions are needed, but it is challenging to capture the full spread of vehicle emission factors (EFs) with chassis ...

Introducing the Illustris Project: simulating the coevolution of dark and visible matter in the Universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We introduce the Illustris Project, a series of large-scale hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation. The highest resolution simulation, Illustris-1, covers a volume of $(106.5\,{\rm Mpc})^3$, has a dark mass resolution of ${6.26 \times 10^{6 ...
