Alpha: A Constant That Is Not a Constant? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We review the observational information on the constancy of the fine structure constant alpha. We find that small improvements on the measurement of ^{187}Re lifetime can provide significant progress in exploring the range of variability suggested by QSO data. We also discuss the effects of a time varying alpha on stellar structure and evolution.

Why is Kemeny’s constant a constant? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Probability, 2018
Abstract In their 1960 book on finite Markov chains, Kemeny and Snell established that a certain sum is invariant. The value of this sum has become known as Kemeny’s constant. Various proofs have been given over time, some more technical than others.

Are Constants Constant?

open access: yesPolylinguality and Transcultural Practices, 2019
The boundaries of the artwork visibly change the perception of the seemingly unshakable physical laws. For example, the works of writers of the beginning and end of the twentieth century, who created samples of the so-called. “Border literature” (N.L. Leiderman), we consider the ethnocultural component of certain physical categories and their role in ...

On the Khintchine constant [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics of Computation, 1997
Summary: We present rapidly converging series for the Khintchine constant and for general ``Khintchine means'' of continued fractions. We show that each of these constants can be cast in terms of an efficient free-parameter series, each series involving values of the Riemann zeta function, rationals, and logarithms of rationals.

THE ALIQUOT CONSTANT [PDF]

open access: yesThe Quarterly Journal of Mathematics, 2010
The average value of log s(n)/n taken over the first N even integers is shown to converge to a constant lambda when N tends to infinity; moreover, the value of this constant is approximated and proven to be less than 0. Here s(n) sums the divisors of n less than n.

Are fundamental constants really constant? [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physics, 1986
Reasons for suspecting that fundamental constants might change with time are reviewed. Possible consequences of such variations are examined. The present status of experimental tests of these ideas is discussed.

CUDA Memory Optimizations for Large Data-Structures in the Gravit Simulator

open access: yesJournal of Algorithms & Computational Technology, 2011
Modern GPUs open a completely new field to optimize embarrassingly parallel algorithms. Implementing an algorithm on a GPU confronts the programmer with a new set of challenges for program optimization.
