Implementation of the self-consistent phonons method with ab initio potentials (AI-SCP).

Journal of Chemical Physics, 2023
The self-consistent phonon (SCP) method allows one to include anharmonic effects when treating a many-body quantum system at thermal equilibrium. The system is then described by an effective temperature-dependent harmonic Hamiltonian, which can be used ...

The tribal placement of Urocorthylus Petrov, Mandelshtam & Beaver, with a description of the male of U. hirtellus Petrov et al., and notes on its biology (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae)

Zootaxa, 2023
We show, using molecular data, that the enigmatic genus Urocorthylus Petrov, Mandelshtam & Beaver from Southeast Asia belongs in the scolytine tribe, Dryocoetini, and not in the almost wholly American tribe Corthylini, where it was originally placed.

Instability Increments of Stimulated Mandelshtam–Brillouin Scattering in a Bounded Region with Allowance for Collisions

Russian Physics Journal, 2018
The problem of Mandelstam–Brillouin scattering in the region bounded in the direction of pump wave propagation and infinite in the transverse direction is considered. Such situations can arise, for example, in plasma heating or diagnostic problems. Since the time of scattered radiation escape for the examined geometry upon scattering at a certain angle

Theory of stimulated Mandelshtam-Brillouin scattering in running conditions in a inhomogeneous scattering medium

Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1991
The paper considers the theory of stimulated Mandelshtam-Brillouin scattering (SMBS) in running conditions, i.e., with the length of the scattering medium significantly exceeding the spatial length of the pump pulse. In such conditions the pump pulse runs through the medium, and stimulated scattering of the pump wave into the Stokes wave takes place ...

A new bark beetle species, Dryocoetes krivolutzkajae Mandelshtam, 2001 (Scolytidae), discovered in Kamchatka

Contemporary Problems of Ecology, 2013
The discovery of the bark beetle Dryocoetes krivolutzkajae Mandelshtam, 2001 (Scolytidae) on Verkhoturova Island (Bering Sea, Northeastern Kamchatka) in the roots of Rhodiola rosea L. (Crassulaceae) is reported. This is the first and only bark beetle of tundra forestless landscapes; the species is classified as an endemic of Kamchatka and Russia in ...

A Piece of Advice Given by Leonid Isaakovich Mandelshtam

2001
Everyone who is going to take part in a collection of reminiscences faces some difficulties. What should be dwelt on? What is unreasonable or uninteresting to describe? How can one avoid sliding into a presentation of one’s own biography? How can one be sure that one’s memory has not played a trick? Obviously, only after having tried to write something

The loss of size sensitivity in para-hydrogen clusters due to the strong quantum delocalization.

Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2020
Para-hydrogen (pH2)N clusters have been the focus of numerous computational studies. Originally motivated by the possibility of observing superfluidity, these studies also revealed rich and complex structural properties of (pH2)N .

Quantum-induced solid-solid transitions and melting in the Lennard-Jones LJ38 cluster.

Journal of Chemical Physics, 2018
The solid-solid and melting transitions that occur in Lennard-Jones LJ n clusters have been both fascinating and challenging for the computational physics community over the last several decades.
