Comparison of CDMS [100] and [111] oriented germanium detectors

open access: yes, 2011
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) utilizes large mass, 3" diameter $\times$ 1" thick target masses as particle detectors. The target is instrumented with both phonon and ionization sensors and comparison of energy in each channel provides event-by ...

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Case Report: Differences in self-selected pacing in 20, 40, and 60 ironman-distance triathlons: a case study

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living
BackgroundTriathletes are pushing their limits in multi-stage Ironman-distance triathlons. In the present case study, we investigated the pacing during 20, 40, and 60 Ironman-distance triathlons in 20, 40, and 60 days, respectively, of one professional ...

(A233) Preparedness For A Mega Mass-Casualty Event (MMCE) [PDF]

open access: yesPrehospital and Disaster Medicine, 2011
A Mega Mass-Casualty Event (MMCE) is a unique and exceptional event, that results in a very large number of casualties (500–5000) needing emergency care in the prehospital and hospital settings. This type of event usually goes beyond the capabilities of a certain region and requires reinforcement of resources from adjacent and remote regions.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Mass mortality event in a small saline lake (Lake Rogoznica) caused by unusual holomictic conditions

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2003
The study of a small saline eutrophic lake was performed under meromictic and holomictic conditions. The meromictic period was characterised by anoxic conditions in the bottom layer with high sulphide and nutrient concentrations.
