Adaptive solution of problems modeled by unified state variable constitutive equations

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2023
The objective of the work was an efficient, numerical implementation of one of the unified, internalstate-variable constitutive models. Such models are general and convenient in numerical applications since they describe elastic, plastic, viscous ...

Picking first arrivals in hydroacoustic seismograms from MERMAID floats

open access: yesSeismica
Floating seismometers (‘MERMAIDs’) operating in the noisy environment of the world’s oceans pose a challenge for picking the time of earthquake first arrivals.

Variational Bayesian blind restoration reconstruction based on shear wave transform for low-dose medical CT image

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, 2017
A variational Bayesian blind restoration reconstruction based on shear wave transform for low-dose medical computed tomography (CT) image is proposed. The proposed algorithm eliminates the effects of the point spread function in the process of low-dose ...

Efficient parallel MAP timing recovery algorithm for TDS-OFDM systems

open access: yesDianxin kexue, 2018
According to the problems of the existing timing recovery algorithm with the time-domain orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TDS-OFDM) modulation in the wireless multimedia transmissions of 5G communications, such as slow processing speed and big ...

Iterative QR-Based SFSIC Detection and Decoder Algorithm for a Reed–Muller Space-Time Turbo System

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
An iterative QR-based soft feedback segment interference cancellation (QRSFSIC) detection and decoder algorithm for a Reed–Muller (RM) space-time turbo system is proposed in this paper. It forms the sufficient statistic for the minimum-mean-square error (

Impact of nonlinearity on changing the a priori of trace gas profile estimates from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2008
Non-linear maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimates of atmospheric profiles from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) contains a priori information that may vary geographically, which is a confounding factor in the analysis and physical ...

Maximum a posteriori estimation for high-throughput peak fitting in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods
We introduce a peak fitting method to estimate the model parameters and the number of peaks without using the conventional trial-and-error approach. The proposed method automatically removes excess peaks using maximum a posteriori estimation.

Complementarity based a posteriori error estimates and their properties

open access: yesMathematics and Computers in Simulation, 2012
The paper studies complementary approaches in a posteriori finite element error estimation for a diffusion-reaction model problem. These approaches provide sharp and guaranteed upper bonds for the energy norm of the error and they are independent from the way how the approximate solution is obtained. Numerical tests are also discussed.

A-posteriori error estimators and RFB

open access: yes, 2016
We derive a posteriori bounds for the residual-free bubble (RFB) method for the solution of convection-dominated diffusion equations. Both linear functional error control and energy norm error control are considered. The implementation of a reliable and efficient $h$ adaptive algorithm is discussed.
