Biodegradable Aurum: Gold Nanosheets Undergo Biodegradation by Neutrophil Myeloperoxidase

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 4, April 2026.
The gold nanosheets undergo biodegradation when interacting with human neutrophil‐like cells that secrete myeloperoxidase (MPO). The gold sheets are degraded by reactive radical enzyme intermediates of MPO, HOCl and hydroxy radicals generated via Fenton‐like reaction. These results suggest the possible biodegradation of gold nanomaterials in the blood.

Uncovering the Key Factors Influencing Phytochemical and Phytopharmacological Properties During Medicinal Plant Processing

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
From farm to pharma, this review details the engineering of quality in medicinal plants through a science‐driven approach: it first elucidates how genetic and environmental factors inscribe the plant's phytochemical and phytopharmacological profile before harvest, and then dissects the postharvest techniques and technologies—chemical and thermal pre ...

Uneven Distribution of Natural Energy Resources Impacts on Systemwide Energy Return on Investment

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Regional disparities in natural energy resources may impede the acceleration of energy transitions in regional power systems, as the shift to net‐zero power systems requires significant energy inputs. Net energy, defined as the surplus remaining after accounting for energy inputs, serves as a key metric of system performance.
