Investigation causes of pavement structure failure using new AASHTO mechanistic-empirical procedures for optimization roads performance in different climatic condition of Iran

open access: yesEnvironment Conservation Journal, 2015
In recent years, procedure of AASHTO (American Association State Highway and Transportation Officials) Guide for Design of Pavement Structures distanced from first empirical procedure and advanced toward mechanistic-empirical procedures.

Empirical modeling of the relationship between decision sight distance and stopping sight distance based on AASHTO [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Transport, 2018
The paper introduces implementation of highways' stopping sight distance (SSD) and decision sight distance (DSD) based on AASHTO modeling assumptions. SSD characterizes the necessary distance for highway vehicles to stop safely in front from an obstacle.

Development of an AASHTO Guide Specification for UHPC

open access: yesSecond International Interactive Symposium on UHPC, 2019
The widespread, growing interest in the United States in using ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) in engineered structures is being hindered by a lack of structural design guidance relevant to this class of materials. The material characteristics that form the foundational inputs for existing reinforced concrete design specifications do not ...

Mechanics‐based model for cold joints in reinforced concrete members

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This study introduces a mechanics‐based numerical model to characterize the behavior of cold joints in reinforced concrete members subjected to monotonic loading. The model incorporates mechanisms such as interface slip and opening, aggregate interlock, clamping force, and dowel action of the reinforcing bars crossing the interface.

Deflection‐based assessment of residual prestress in simply‐supported bridges accounting for creep variability

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Several test methods have been proposed in the literature for measuring the level of residual prestress, most of them involving either semi‐ or fully destructive techniques for local measurements which could be highly sensitive to boundary conditions and execution details.
