The Damhus Hoard: New Insights Into Some of the Earliest Viking Silver Coinage
Archaeometry, Volume 68, Issue S4, Page S71-S85, July 2026.ABSTRACT In 2018, a hoard totalling 266 silver Viking Age coins was discovered near Damhus, south of Ribe (Denmark). The coins belong to the early ninth‐century ‘KG 4’ series, with the vast majority, 262 coins, identified as having Face/Forward Looking Deer on the obverse/reverse.

Early Medieval Europe, Volume 34, Issue 2, Page 299-322, May 2026.In the late ninth and early tenth centuries, an extraordinary number of falcons were given to the ʿAbbāsid caliphs in Baghdad, many of which were white. Gifts from competing dynasties in the northern provinces of the Caliphate, at least some of these birds were almost certainly gyrfalcons from near the Arctic Circle.
