Intra-abdominal abscesses result from intra-abdominal sepsis. They are readily demonstrated with CT or ultrasound. There are multiple sources of infection. Treatment is with antibiotics and minimally invasive approaches with surgery reserved for more severe cases or for non-resolving non-operative cases.
